My 2001 Z3 is leaking fuel at the fuel pump, "see attached photo". Green arrows is where the fuel seem to be leaking from. it looks like it is leaking from/around the fuel line. Does anyone know if this is a sign the the fuel pump has to be replaced? or maybe there is an issue with the fuel hose. The car runs fine no issues with
fuel pump.webp
starting or running rough.

Need to disconnect the hose and take a look at the condition of the rubber at the end and under the jubilee clip, I would suspect the hose is rotting and maybe splitting allowing a leak. You may be able to trim the end to good rubber and reconnect it ensuring its clamped tight with the jubilee clip so it dosn't leak.

Thank you, unfortunately after trimming the hose, the nipple broke off when tightening the clamp. I guess like all plastics in Arizona...they become brittle eventually. Any thoughts on a Genuine BMW Fuel Pump vs after market brand?

Bad luck but your probably correct, aged plastic casualty. Shame to hose trimming didn't solve it.
You should find a replacement pump from one of the USA Parts Suppliers, usual brands like Bosch, Delphi and Meyle are the usual trusted brands.

I had a leak in the same exact area, what did you do to replace the rotted line, did you replace the entire line going through the car or did you just trim it down, i was wondering if I could just replace the short piece of hose instead of replacing the whole line?

I do not think you can just replace the small rubber hose. I trimmed the hose...not sure if it was the hose or a hairline crack around the nipple. I took off about 1/4 -1/2 inch. If you trim and do not have enough hose to reach the nipple, you can loosen the fuel pump nut and twist the assembly slightly to bring the nipple closer to the hose. I said above I broke the nipple when tightening the clamp. I should have held the hose when tightening. So I had to buy a new unit. This brings me to the other mistake I made. I should just bought just the Fuel pump assembly...since the fuel pump was still good, I could of saved a few $100.

I also have this problem in my '97 and have been looking for examples of people fixing it without dropping the tank replacing all the lines. Have you come across any fixes? I tried cutting off the end of the hose where there were some small tears, but I'm guessing there are some micro-tears because it started leaking again once pressure built up in the line.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I was able to cut above the leak and daisy chain fuel hoses with a fuel hose union. No leaks under pressure or driving so far!
