Afternoon Zs,

My Z is letting in rain water between the drivers side window and the top of the roofs rubber seal? I tried using vasaline which I heard was a thing to rub onto the rubber seals but this does not prevent the water coming in. Also the roof canvas appears not to hang slightly over the seal and the window which I thought might be the problem aswell, Like it has shrunk over time. Please any ideas?

Hi, same was happening to our 98 Z3. We had the window adjusted up and stopped water coming in. Hope this is of help.

Same problem here. I had to have extensive repairs to the windiw mechanism in my driver side door. My guy did a great job, but the window stopped about an inch from the top. He said bring it back and he'd adjust it, but a week later he'd moved to care for his mother. The bmw authorized dealer here wants the GNP of a small nation to do it, so I'm searching for someone a bit more reasonable. Meanwhile , I keep the car in my shop on rainy days.

My window doesn't go right to the top automatically, but I'm used to this with older Triumph Classic Cars. There, the hood was designed to cover the top of the glass but then you couldn't open or close the door, so you had to get out, then manually pull the hood out round. On my Z3 I get out then pull the glass upwards and it moves by half an inch so it overlaps the rubber seal and goes under the hood lip. If I forget, there's a tiny gap that water always gets into, but that last little pull upwards gets a great seal.
