Hi gang,

i just replaced the AC fan as my old one was seized solid. I've plugged it in and bolted it all back up, but the fan still won't spin (although it spins freely by hand). Could this be because I don't have any AC gas in the system? (Which I don't, I was told to get the fan sorted before they regassed it), or should it still spin and I have ended up with a dud fan?

I ran the car up to temp and turned the AC on, but the fan still didn't spin.

Thanks in advance!

Ac wont come on if no gas and usually that would stop fan from needless operation.
I should know went through 3 different pipes to get Orinoco one working cant remember if fan works with no gas pretty sure it didn't you would push dash button blue light on and that was about it.

When you get gassed the ac fan kicks in and out as required by ac demand engine temp etc etc
But if you got on full cold 🥶 ac on fan should kick in and out regularly and ac compressor clutch will kick in and out.
Stephen.

There is a pressure sensing switch in the A/C system. When it detects no/low pressure it cuts power to the fan and the compressor.

Great! Thanks both, I'll get the re-gas booked.

I'm taking it to Imola in April for the WEC and then Alicante in June for holibobs, so I expect the AC will come in handy! 😎

As above....it won't run if the a/c is held off by the low pressure switch.
To test it runs put a direct feed to the fan plug.

Isn't a convertible enough? ;)
If you have the roof down, there is no a/c in the world that will cool the whole of Spain.

The only time I ever wanted AC was when stuck in midday traffic in Madrid. Had to put the roof up as a sunshade. First and only time in 27 years ownership.

On a hot day the cool air is nice, even with the hood down. :)
