This process was a success.

The sealing frame was particularly awkward/difficult to re-insert and it very nearly snapped again. Due to the tight fit (by design I’m sure) it squashed itself very very quickly and firmly against the body of the car.

Initially I thought it had not sealed as I did a water test and some still trickled through (pictured below). I hadn’t tightened the bolts enough, out of fear of cracking the frame. Once tightened, no leaks.

@samuel_m
It would be a good idea to pop the rear rear wings off and check that the drain outlets for the drainage channel are clear. They look like they can get blocked with crud quite easily.

if you need any of the washers I have loads of spares …
just PM to let me know and I will send some of them in the post.
Hi
I have run ito the same issue with that plastic strip somebody has been there before with buckets of goo and all those washers are missing I would gladly buy some off you and pay postage.

If anybody has the plastic moulding to sell i would buy it the one on that car is broken/cracked in so many places it's beyond repair

Thanks

Hi
I only have 12 pairs of the washers as they are made up of two parts. ( metal part and plastic part)

The metal parts will need a bit of wire brushing but should clean up ok.

The plastic bow could possibly be repaired… using heat staples. I’ve repaired loads of plastic parts on my two Z3’s and not had anything fail on me yet.

Hi thanks for reply yes our cars are old now and parts like these hard to find.

I have not checked part numbers for these yet and if they are still available.

I did see something about the heat staples so had a quick look for the gun and staples, problem I have found with some of these tools is finding spare staples for instance.
Do you have a link to the one you have as it sounds like you have had some good results however the plastic seal fram on mine is shattered and I have found every type of glue, goo and poo in there frome previous attempts by various owners to plug leaks.

On the lookout for a new plastic sealing frame but looks like impossible so maybe one with 1 or 2 cracks can repair.

Thanks again

Where about in the U.K. are you ??

I live in New Brighto on the Wirral Peninsula across the river from Liverpool.
I did see something in a post from a member who said he had half a dozen plastic sealing frames in his loft but he was way down south from me I think he said and he stated he would not post one prob due to awkward shape of it

shame it’s not the old Brighton … that’s just along the coast from me =))
