Main dealer markup on a BMW Z3

a) they are entitled to a margin and we'll give them the benefit of the doubt and assume it will have new sills and front wings, paint etc. So their costs will be quite significant b) I doubt they'll actually get £17k or even the original £15k for it c) BMW main dealer customers are generally a different lot to us lot. This may well end up as a rich bloke's play thing. I don't think this will affect the sort of cars the rest of us tend to buy d) it's a good advert that a 15+ year old car is still worth £17k. It's not of course but that doesn't mean it's not a good advert/message.

Like anything else, its worth what someone is prepared to pay, not what they (the garage) want for the car. I have seen countless cars (not just z3's) priced too high in garages in the hope that they will sell. Check back 6 months later, car is still there and the price has dropped (still too high), but its still sitting on their forecourt.

I was going to post a link to a boxster I looked at 6 months ago, but it looks like it has now sold, lmao.

I'm not that surprised at the price, you can't buy a Z3 new anymore, and this car, once the bodywork's been sorted, will be just about as close as one can get to a new one.

I would imagine the price increase will be down to the car needing brake pipes etc as I'm sure Sytners won't sell a car with surface rust on any underbody components.

Looks like Sytner may have a better handle on the potential market for all those vehicles that are approaching classic status.

I took my Z into the local BMW dealers for what they called a "free summer check". Whilst it was in, I asked if they would provide me with an insurance valuation, only to be told that they wouldn't be able too as the car was too old !
Just insured my 2001 1.9 Z3 with Saga - £123 :)

Have a look at Hexagon classic cars section.

Some eye watering prices in there.

As someones already said, only worth what some one's prepared to pay.

But we're talking about cars that one can no longer buy new, and are now available in limited numbers.

The 3.0cc is quite a rare car, can't be many left that are sub 30k mileage.

I was at sytner yesterday and it was parked up outside bodyshop area so is ready to go in to sort out the scabby bits on the wings and sills. When I'm next passing will pop in to see what it's turned out like.

I think the thing is that most of us bought the cars not expecting prices to rise dramatically. If they were to suddenly become very valuable just how many of us would be willing to give them up for the added cash and what could we buy to replace them once they were gone at what we paid for them when we bought them. What would it cost to replace it and gives as much pleasure. There are far too many Zeds still on the road for the prices to go into dreamland levels, surely not in my lifetime and I expect not for another 15 years or more. Yes prices will go up slowly but I think very few of us think of our cars as future major money makers or they'd all be covered away in a ventilated shop until to price was right to sell!! JMHO, JIM
