Not a bad idea frankie, I think I'll see how big the bill is when I collect Saturday and consider my options then. If I could sell now and get my money back I would take the cash, and as you say be without a Z for a couple of months then get into a 2.8 sometime around August/September.
I think a years MOT and a long list of new parts would speak volumes when the time to sell comes.

Just a quick update on the situation.
My mechanic has managed to bring the costs down a little and the car is fixed and passed the MOT.

The grand total?

£650.

But now I have an almost completely new braking system and new suspension components so the Z will be better than ever.

Now to save for the 2.8!

got to be worth doing.you could buy another and have the same problems and at least on yours you know whats done.may be you could get the parts yourself and get your mechanic to fit for you.euro car parts reasonable prices and if you you say you are trade you may even get some discount.bmw as a rule are pretty easy to work on if you have basic skills.if not i am sure people on this forum can offer you help.you can learn and save money by doing the jobs yourself.win win!hope you get your car done and enjoy the summer out of it.keep it when done and sell next spring and i am sure you will get your money back.free motoring.......

It's not been too bad here to be honest... however I bet Florida is better! Me and the GF have been wanting to go for ages, in fact anything USA and we wanna do it!
