After washing my car , I noticed the antenna grommet was broke , to gain access to this do you go in the trunk and pull back the cover lining that has 2 round black plugs that hold it in place , and do ya just yank it off , or do you pry it with a flathead screwdriver , , I don't wanna break the clips if I don't have too and do you need to take the back light out too , I guess I'm asking for the procedure to replace the grommet

I changed the boot (trunk) carpet on my Z3 and when it was out the aerial could be easily accessed for removal. Gentle leverage on the clips is advisable but replacement are available on eBay or via BMW if you do break them.

Tony.

I use a flat open- jaw spanner to prise clips out - the sort of thing you get with a self assembly garden furniture , patio heaters etc. Or you can use 2 flat head drivers one either side. These particular clips are quite sturdy and unlikely to break. As @t-tony says the actual aerial change is straight forward after that. While you are in there check for any water build up in the well or around tilt switch (if fitted)

I just popped the old one out and used some washing up liquid and slid the new one in.

These are useful for trim panels

I found mine only popped out easily. One popped the other 90° twisted.
Carpet removed i undid the roof pump and moved it to the side and the ariel itself is held in by 1 10mm bolt and you can then pull it down to release it.
The grommit can easily then be replaced and the ariel has a bulbous end that pops into place in the gommit.
Easy job

Thanks for all the replies , waiting to get the grommet in the mail , hopefully I'll be able to get the jib done this weekend

there are 2 different types so make sure you get the right one and the other thing is there is a rubber Grommet inside the wing you have to make sure you put back and make sure its fitted into its groove, it looks like it stops water getting into the boot :), I used some silicone grease to aid putting it all back together though I use it to fit everything on my car.... the car is more silicone now than Pamela Anderson :o

one turns 90 degrees the other is a mushroom pull type i bought the cheap plastic clip pullers, and a metal one specifically for this job and to use on other clips... get a torch in there and see how it all comes out, failry easy job once you have disassembled the antenna
