Today was a big day for me….

It was the day I was taking my outer sill covers off for the first time, to reveal what may be lurking beneath

And it was way better than imagined, especially for a car that has lived by various seasides for the majority of its life

Absolutely no rust at all, apart from the tiniest of surface rust at the front end of the sill !

You can see the previous underseal at each end, so someone obviously cared about it at some point !

I am very much over the moon with their condition, it came as a pleasant surprise

Chris.

Mine was even better than yours, just needed cleaning and treating with clear Waxoyl, put plenty in through the holes using the cavity tube on my Shultz Airline gun. Coated the rear of the outer sills as well.

Good to hear. I am definitely still undersealing them just for peace of mind. Using dinitrol with a Shultz gun and bilt hamber for rust treatment and cavity

Looking good .
Have seen way worse than that always nice to find all is not as bad a you may have initially thought
Could have looked like this.

This was a zed bought to break someone had done various panels to the car .
Outer sills covers were absolutely minted around 95% rust free removed them to find the inner ones totally rotten and crumbling to the touch.
Stephen.

Lucky to find a Z3 without any rot these days IMO.
I was really lucky with mine. Not only were the sill covers almost like new (someone on here bought them for good money IIRC) but the sills themselves really are like new. I don't think my car was ever driven in the wet. The car was absolutely full of cobnut shells and leaves, though. It was home to half the mice in the UK for a while I reckon.
I got 4 big bin-bags full (to the brim) of various vegetation out of it and there is still some in there that I can't get to. Maybe nutshells are rust inhibitors? ;)

Is that your garden with a two post lift in it??

Jealous either way haha

Yes! Good spot

I am very fortune my dad bought a two post lift off of Ebay, and then installed it near our garage, we use it for everything! Highly recommend if you have the space

We have only burnt out two motors , we have now switched to three phase

Bloody well jealous, looks like it’s under a carport too!

Lol’d at three phase comment haha

The more I hear about your dad the more I like him btw lol

I didn't think they would hook up three phase to a domestic property unless you can prove you need it for business.

You are correct
We bought an inverter that converts the single phase to three.
It's remarkably small at a bit under shoe box size and works like a charm.... so far

The three phase motor is much smaller than the single phase equivalent which is an added bonus
