I have tried to get a spare Z3 key from the BMW garage here in France, but they say its unavailable.

Has anyone in UK had any success with that?

I have had no luck either at the stealer in Shrewsbury either

Previously people here in the UK have got dumb keys from BMW dealers that is keys with no central locking buttons. They have to produce the registration document to confirm ownership of the vehicle and BMW get a key from Germany that is coded to your car, they use the Vin number from the car to check their records and code the key so it will start the car. Other method is to get a mobile Auto locksmith to supply a key, cut it and then code it to the car so it starts the car.
