I noticed today that my car is developing some lateral free play in the windscreen wiper spindles - is this a common thing? What is the usual remedy - new spindles or are they repairable?

The whole wiper mechanism is suspended on rubber mounts that start to perish and droop. Just check that the wiper arm isn't catching the underside of the bonnet as this is the usual resultant effect of the mounts failing.
To get to the mechanism you need to remove the plastic scuttle panel then you can give it a good inspection.

I thought that might be the case as we replace many link sets on Puntos and Corsa at work , I just hoped these might be different. Oh well tools out tomorrow. Thanks Aceman.
