Also, I don't think the new piece is permanent so just disconnect the wiring as suggested. That way if you ever go back to the illuminated cap you'll just need to reconnect. JIM
Thanks to whoever put the link in. Just noticed. If I wanted to take a feed from the now disconnected power source to say power up some under seat red LEDs to match the instrument lighting do I need to be aware of overloading anything. Just thinking of say five lights under each seat maybe. Thanks.
If you're using LED's John you needn't worry about overloading they draw minimal current. I fitted 2, 5 LED strips to the sides of my boot to light the dark corners and also 2, 12 LED strips (red) down the edges of my boot lid which light up with the boot light too.
Be careful if you tap in to the gear knob supply, this is fed through the light switch rheostat. If it shorts out for any reason it will blow the rheostat in the light switch which results in you loosing all dash lights. Not trying to scare you John, it's just easy done.
Just as a follow up and not exactly related to the gearstick cap, when I disconnected the connector I had to remove the thick sound proofing material. I put it back exactly as it was taken out and I have noticed that gear changes from 1 to 2, 3 to 4 and 5 to 4 seem to be 'cushioned'. All in all a nicer gear change. Any substance to this?. Thanks.
