Hi,
I have recently purchased a 2000 (W Reg) 1.9 Z3 Roadster and am having some issues with the wing mirror adjustment mechanism.
Both the driver and passenger side move OK in the horizontal plane but not in the vertical plane.
I have opened up the passenger mirror today and inspected the mechanism but can't see any obvious issues - photo below
There appears to be a single motor and some sort of "clutch" arrangement that I guess engages one set of cogs or the other
When I try to move the mirrors in the vertical plane I get a clunk and can see the upper ring move but then just get some graunching noises but no movement.
I rang my local BMW dealership hoping to replace the whole adjustment assembly but they said the only parts available are a new motor (£96) or a complete new wing mirror (£519 !!!!!!!).
Is there any way to service/repair the adjustment mechanism?
