So it's been about a month since I've owned the 1.9, and I'm incredibly happy with it. Had the top down for the first time on Saturday and loved it.

However...

I was looking on auto trader and saw a 2.8 on there so for the fun of it rung my insurer and requested a quote for the 2.8. I was shocked with the result, only £19 more for the year!

So what UK saying is it worth spending another £1000 and get the 2.8?

Connor.

Well you are saving money on fuel with your 1.9 ;)

Well you are saving money on fuel with your 1.9 ;)

On that note how much mpgs are we talking?
I've been getting about 30 because a lot of my day to day driving is a 2 mile drive to work, when the car only just warms up.

Go and test drive a few and that will probably give you the answer you are looking for. I've only driven the 6cyls, so can't comment on the difference between the two. I didn't really have any rationale in going for the 6cyl, just did...

£1000 is a lot of fuel money you can be using to drive your current one though ;)

Doing mostly highway since I got the car Aug 18 and putting on about 1500miles I'm averaging a touch over 40mpg. Likely won't see much in traffic where I live though! JIM

Feather Foot, do you ever get it over 30mph. Not doubting you but you have a one off car, never heard of 40mpg before no matter how carefull you are. Well Done..

My old 2.8 used to give me between 24-30 to the gallon so thats about 270-300miles per tank of fuel. More if you were doing a long drive.

Just wait till you hear the noise those 2.8's make........take some spare underware.

i brought the 1.9 8v brought it because i liked the car, engine size did not come into it as i had a 1.8 before, after driving it for a while i thought it was down an power, compared to my 1.8 mgf after posting on this site it was clear there were no power gains to make but was told to look at the suspension, as it did not handle well, i changed the rear springs and shocks and that transformed the car, giving you more confidence to drive it as it should, would i change it for a bigger engine, well i have put a lot of thought to this, and in this car no, knowing what i know now would i have looked for a bigger engine at the start, no because it was the car that i liked, so the way i have looked at it most of my driving is down B roads country lanes thats when the engine becomes secondary and it is the car and drive that come into its own, just my thought ;)

I love the 2.8 - there's a great note from the exhaust and the car does 39.9 mpg - can't get it to do 40 mpg no matter how gently I drive the car

I think I may save up and go for it. The way I see it, I'll be spending money on the 1.9 to get it to sound better, look smarter and be better to drive. That would require an exhaust, new suspension, air filter and other bits and pieces which will run me somewhere near £1000 anyway. So I'll hopefully have the 2.8 by summer! So if anyone is looking to sell let me know!

Sadly Connor, your logic may not be quite as sound as you think...

Once you have saved up and got your 2.8 you will look at it and think.... "new exhaust, new suspension, air filter and other bits and pieces..."

My 2.8 does about 30 0n a run but drops a fair bit round town 20ish I reckon about 25-27 mpg over a tank full with varied driving.

I very seldom get below 30mph and top speed is usually tops 65 unless I know there's a shift change at our local RCMP detachment. So my engine is usually in or close to it's sweet spot and running at it's most efficient place in the power band. And everything around here is pretty flat which helps. JIM

Hi David, I run 36 psi in all my tires as 99% of my driving is hiway. Try upping your's next time and you should hit 40 but don't tell Taffzee. He won't believe there are two Zeds that hit the 40mpg Mark and one a 2.8 no less!!! lol JIM

Let me know how much for the 1.9 if it fits the budget may help us both out! JIM
