2001 z3 1.9

Hi,
The 97 has only one O2 sensor and no engine manag light on the dash bord; the 2001 has two sensors: one before and the second after cat. If the owner replaced only one , it's not enough. BMW recommends changing the sensors around 100k miles, which is your case.
Good luck!
Dan

Fault codes reader only showing one fault o2 sensor bank 1 so no disaster and everything else seems fine so I just bought myself a 2001 z3

The fan noise you hear from cold start is the auxiliary air pump forcing air into the exhaust to reduce the emissions when the engine is running rich at cold start it runs for a short time until the engine reaches sufficient temperature and the ecu sets the correct fueling. My 1999 M43 engined Z3 badged as a 1.8 but 1.9 in reality has two lambda sensors one pre cat and one post cat.
I had a few problems with running and put in new sensors and a new maf all oem parts which sorted it all out. Do not use pattern parts they rarely work well if at all its money down the drain. Check all the rubber hoses under the bonnet replace any with cracks, holes or leaks. Air leaks will affect the running and often cause the EML to show up. Code reader is your freind and will save you loads of cash in the long run.

Welcome from Ireland, and congratulations on your new purchase!

Wait till weekend and you can get out top down and properly enjoy your new purchase :)

Ohh i will just an oil and filter change first

As previously posted the "fan" you can hear on start up and for about 30 secs after is the so called "smog pump" doing exactly what it should do, so don't worry about it. Where are you located Phil? Enjoy your car and welcome to our forum.

Nice looking Z3, always liked the blue with black convertible top. Wheels are beautiful . My 98 1.9L has 159K and running strong. And to think I thought the 1.9L was a small engine. Still hits 130MPH with the top down.

Enjoy

welcome from a relative newbie, only had mine a few months, love it. It's such a nostalgia trip, long bonnet with slight power bulge, scuttle shake, brill !!! brand new cars lack character.
90 odd thousand miles is nothing these days. With regular oil changes 200k won't be a problem.

Hi & Welcome from Gloucestershire. Good luck with your new Zed ... enjoy:thumbsup:

Hi all, can anyone help me with a loud whistling when I start the car. Happened a few times but last night as I started the Z3 the whistling sound was like a sucking whistle and it lasted 2 or 3 minutes and died off, very loud at first but reduced in volume as I drove off at about 30 mph. I hadn't started the car in about a week so thought there might be something to that.
Also, anyone have a problem with their seat belt retainer clip, driver's side no longer works, I have to stretch across to click into the passenger side. Is the a simple fix? I tried a lot of WD40 into the mechanism but it didn't help. I hate the idea of changing out the clip, I think I'd have to remove the seat to get to the bolt.
Thanks
