ABS module coding

After having my abs light on for a while I've finally got round to changing the module for a second hand item of the same part no. The ABS light has gone after a short run, however when I brake it feels as of the abs is activated. Is there anyone near me that can code the module to my ecu? If not and I buy the cables and inpa is there anyone that can guide me through it? Thanks Daz

I'm sure @gookah has also tackled this job.
 
If you've changed like for like Daz, I'm sure Simon @Dobbo did his and he didn't need to "code" it. It just worked.

Yes all part numbers match @t-tony and the lights went out after travelling a few yards but when I press the brake pedal it vibrates like when the abs is active. Hope that makes sense?
 
I swapped mine part for part the light extingushed the same but the abs did not cut in at all until it was coded,

After reading Ant's post mate I think maybe you're on the right path. Get it coded and see where that goes?

Yeah trouble is Tony I don't want to drive it anywhere like it is so need to find someone who can come and code it or do it myself. Thought I read somewhere that someone had a similar problem might have been gookah.
 
buy the cables and I will show you how to do it, infact I think there is a thread somewhere on how too. if you swap the ecu then the light will go out as there is no more fault, but the module wont actually work until its coded to the car.

unless you fancy a drive down to Worcestershire, or find someone close by that has the package, the part you need is ncs expert

Yes it was me and gookah who fixed the pump on mine. It used to vibrate when pressing the brake pedal and it went quite hard but I can't remember if this was before or after we changed the pump.

When changed we matched the part numbers and fitted a unit from an E46. It worked as it should and the traction control did kick in but the light wouldn't flash, all worked fine after coding it correctly through INPA. We also bled the unit using INPA, but this will only need doing if you changed over the whole unit.

You need to get it coded and see if it gets rid off the problem. I'm pretty certain that mine was doing the same as yours prior to changing the unit though, which is why we changed it. Did you have the problem before?

Thanks for the input I didn't have the problem before just the lights on the dash and when I had the codes read it came up with the pump at fault. It's had all new sensors and I presume there fine as the lights have now gone. I'm not worried about traction control as I've removed the asc throttle body ;)
I'll have to buy the cables and software @littlefeller I've read in your thread about having a 64bit laptop how do I check whether mine has this? Sorry I'm not great with computers more of a hands on type of bloke :D
 
you only need the 64bit for for DIS, or rather the vertualy machine in runs in. the part you need is ncs expert or the inpa, these parts will run on any machine.
to see if yours is 64 bit you need to go into computer info,
 
The lights on mine went out as soon as the module was changed and the problems went away but it still needed coding for the lights to flash when the ACS works. Hopefully you have changed it for a decent module and not one that is now causing the issue. You won't find out until you have correctly coded it. Does it make a noise as well when you press the brakes?

Yes I'm hoping that too if not I'll have to look at sending one off for repair. I've just purchased the bccables kit with inpa and ncs expert etc so will post back when I've found out what the issue is or if I need help after deleting everything in the ecu :D also if anyone near me needs help with diagnostics I'll have the kit (when I've figured out how to use it)
 
Forgot to say it brakes fine when stood still and will hold the car it's just when moving the pedal vibrates and makes the noise. Just don't want to move the car too far until I know it's sorted.
 
Sounds like one of the wheel sensors is telling the abs module the wheel is not moving and therefore thinks you are skidding hence the abs kicking in.
 
I was thinking similar thoughts Brian, we get cars in at from time to time that have the reluctor ring on the c/v joint broken, this gives the effect of the ABS"working" but doesn't put the lights on. Possibly a faulty ABS cable Daz or not making contact at the hub?

Ok will read codes first and see what it brings up. It should tell me which ones at fault rather than pull all 4 out, I'm lazy now. Thanks for everyone's input much appreciated :thumbsup:
 
@Daz3 I agreed to your post thinking reading the codes was a good idea, not agreeing that you are Lazy...he he :)
