Finally got round to installing my inpa ncsexpert etc so will read any error codes tomorrow. With regards to coding the new abs module is this the process @littlefeller ?
Do I need anything from the old abs module or does it just write the ecu's data onto the one I've replaced it with? Thanks

no you dont need the old module, the coding for the old module is stored in the example - EWS. the coding for all of the modules in kept on two of the modules on the car, this allows BMW to swap every module without loosing the original code.

Hi again I have trouble getting my car to talk to the laptop. I can't access the abs module from inpa and also when I go into ncsexpert I get this when trying to load profile in expertmode any ideas?

Managed to get it to read the ecu am I in the right area here? Can't find ascmk20 module just asc.
you cant access the abs module with inpa as it wont communicate with the car as its not coded to your car. the list of modules you have in the second photo are the modules you can read, you need to read EWS, then if you follow the guide it should show more modules to code too, don't just click happily away, this is changing code in your car, also ensure your battery is good or you can render the car eeerrrrm nackered. the guide posted has been used a few times with success. any questions please ask before just going for it.

Yes I didn't go any further just asking before I break something will have another go when I get chance battery was fine I charged it before playing. Thanks

Just had another look and when I get to step 6 process ecu I get this screen there's no option to choose the ascmk20 just asc is this the one I choose or am I going wrong somewhere followed the instructions exactly.
are you sure you are completing step 5 in its entirety, you need to hit the back button after you select ews
ascmk20 doesnt appear on mine until i go back.
at step 5 all you are doing is copying the code, so its quite safe.
if you have completed step 5 and going back but still no ascmk20 then by default i would imagine it is the asc you need.
if you choose the asc and code it and its not the correct one all you will be doing is replacing the code it already has with like for like so it shouldn't cause any issues, before you do that, go into the ncs expert file, go to NCSexpert/WORK/ folder there will be a file called "FSW_PSW.TRC, make a copy of this file and save it somewhere else like on your desktop, it is the coding for all of your modules, then if anything goes wrong you can just recode all with this file.

Ok thanks again, yes I pressed back after step 5 will have another go when I get time. Will a prompt come up when it's coded?
yes it should say coding complete, (it will say coding first, then coding complete) it takes about 5-10 seconds.

I tend to keep a backup handheld module to hand (my brother's) when I try my laptop/INPA on a car for the first time. Just in case it's the installation.

I do still have my old module I may put this on and see if it will talk to me. I'm tempted to strip it down tbh and repair it as I'm not exactly getting on well with this coding malarky.
My be worth trying to re-solder the joints Daz, that's where the trouble usually occurs I beleive.

Thanks Tony that's what I'm thinking I'm just struggling a bit with this coding stuff. Worth having a go though as I wanted inpa anyway. I would take it somewhere but I don't want to drive it with the abs not working properly. I'll dig my old unit out and start ripping it to bits I think.
