I have car which is in pretty much original stock condition including the original 16" 5 spoke wheels. I am anxious to keep the car in original spec. but wondered which alloys would have been an option on this car when it came out of the factory? If I'm honest a bigger wheel would look better but don't want to put something on that would not have been original.

The biggest OEM wheels for the Z3 where 17 inch.
The best OEM wheels in my opinion for a non ///M Z3 where the BMW l-alloy wheel,cross spoke comp.II 42 which were a >£1,000 option on the later Z3's sport models.
These are staggered 7.5j front and 8.5 rear:
