hi all

For few weeks since I got the car I have been trying to trace an annoying rattle.

Following several 'fixes' I've still got it.

Had decided it was fuel tank and dreading the job.

Anyway I read somewhere on here it could be handbrake cable or something.

Remembered that today while out for a drive. So at low speed, roof down, rattle going mad I pulled handbrake on couple of clicks.
Rattle stopped?!

I can't find where I read it before now.
Any ideas of what it could be?
Guessing need to strip of brakes and check it out.
Not sure how rear brakes come apart?

Any help or ideas gratefully received.

Cheers Dobbo (Simon)

I did a write up on changing handbrake cables last year Simon. It's on here all with pictures.

I recognize that sound well! I, too, chased it around for a while, but it turned out only to be that the brake cable was not well secured under the car. You may be able to secure it to eliminate the noise without replacing the cable. It is worth trying to isolate the cable as best you can. Of course, if you find a split cable, Tony has presented a wonderful primer on replacing. Good luck.

I too had a very annoying rattle from behind the passenger seat most of least year. I only realised when the car hit the road again this April that it was gone, then I realised it would have been around the time when I replaced the boot carpets which were supplied by Andy (@spurs fan in a coupe). I have noticed a very slight rattle occasionally from the same area recently but definitely not as loud so will see if it is the original wiring etc for the 6 disc changer that has come loose.:)

Tony.

I get an annoying whine when I hit the loud peddle, but it seems to go away when I drop the wife off at her work:whistle:

Yes i know what you mean cus when i give it some welly i get a sharp pain in my ribs only on the left side and only with a certain passenger....strange:eek:

It could also be the weight thingies in the rear bumper. They can work loose over time

If memory serves me right they are some sort of stabilizer for the rear, some one will correct me if i am wrong
