What was really sad was when we had the last scrappage scheme, I happened to be up at Thurleigh airfield where all the so called scrappers were parked up.

There was some really lovely cars there, I remember one in particular, a Peugeot 106, it looked a near perfect car.

I don't know if they all really got scrapped, someone there said they would be.

It seemed such a waste of cars that still had plenty of life left in them.

Some really stunning cars passed through a friend's yard en route to scrappage, not only classics but far-from-end-of-life moderns too. There were cars that were in much better condition than my family's current everyday cars going off to be crushed. My mate used to call me when one of the same model as ours came in; I'd nip over and swap wheels, carpets, sound systems, anything that would improve or upgrade any of our cars, swapped like for like - as long as they were still complete when he took them to the final destination nobody really cared. It was a real waste of cars but was only to prop up the car industry.

Yeah, I looked at the pic and thought "hmm....looks like it's in pretty decent shape, wonder why they're scrapping it or at least why they aren't salvaging parts".

Some real classics were crushed during the scrappage scheme, but some weren't .

Yeah, it’s a shame some classics got scrapped, but at least a few managed to survive. Those that did are even more special now.
