Attention "Sport“ model owners

Can anybody with a "sport" 6 cylinder confirm that it's states "sport" on the V5?

What are the distinguishing features of a 3.0 sport model, did all sport models have the aluminium dash panels?

You can generally tell by looking at the following: -

Lower grill on the bumper is a black mesh style grill
Centre console is brushed aluminium
The car will sit lower than standard as it has m-sport suspension.
Style 78 alloys
 
Our Z3 was a sports model but did not have the Ali Dash. So you can not go on the dash. Thins to make it stand out as a sports model, will be the sports seats, the wheel size as i believe they all came with the 17" staggered set up and the front bumper. Most everything else were extras

Most definitive check is probably the VIN checker - bearing in mind you could spec any of the 'sport' options to a 'standard' car and probably vice versa.

Agreed. The VIN checker will list the fact it's a Sport as a build option. A non-Sport can be made to look like a Sport. A Sport may have lost its identifying bits. So not reliable on appearance alone.

bmwvin.com is the one I use. It shows mine as above. It's not blindingly obvious first time but once you know what to look for it is.
 
Here's the full list. The Sport items are 209, 278, 481, 494 & 704. However as has already been mentioned all such options may appear on a non-Sport. The determining option is 719.

Did the 3.0 not get uprated suspension as standard Brian? I'm sure I read that somewhere.?

Yes it did but obvious to see from the outside, 15mm lower than stock.

No Brian i have not got the old vin around. Will see if i can find any other info out
 
Mine has it written on the v5 as
Z3 sport roadster auto covertible.
It also has the following
black mesh style grill
Centre console is brushed aluminium
m-sport suspension.
Aircon
Sports seats
Brushed aluminium dash

My old one looks like it had everything as an add on as only item 719 is missing. So i think it was specced to suit the buyer. It also did not have the M Steering wheel, it had the sports one fitted.

The info on your V5 is only as good as the administrator that puts the details on it when registering the car new. We used to sell new imported cars and the info supplied was minimal. Most V5's didn't even get engine numbers or model details.

If it doesn't check all these boxes then it's not a SE.

Take mine for istance: for the Dutch market they made a Sport Line that looks like the SE, albeit misses the lowered springs, the honeycomb grille, it has mat chrome interior but not brushed aluminum console, and styling 32 instead of styling 42.
