BMW Z3 Trouble Filling Up

Hi,
My sister's recently got a Z3 and it's just starting being difficult to fill up.
When you put the petrol nozzle in you have to dispense the petrol REALLY SLOWLY in order for it not to cut off. Even then it sometimes cuts off after afew litres.
Has anyone else come across this problem and found a fix?
Is there maybe a float in the petrol tank to stop thieves syphoning out fuel and this has become dislodged?
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated thanks!

I've personally not had any issues with either of my Z3's, but I'm sure someone will be along soon with a suggestion or two!

Try pulling the nozzle out a little John, so the fuel doesn't blow back and cut the gun out.

I have a similar issue...although I don't consider it a problem I can relate that the filler nozzle requires quite specific positioning in order to work on my Z, and although it fell into the category of "annoying" for the first week or two of ownership I quickly got the knack of it and have no problems at all..

I can report that shell stations tend to do this more than esso or older independent stations, maybe the newer pumps are a bit more sensitive,? I also notice on my scooters the same older pumps have a tendency to overfill so the fuel ends up all over the luggage space under the seat if I am not really careful.

I have had petrol on my parka more than once!:mad:
 
There should be some kind of pressure valve on the tank.
On most cars it's a pressure value with a "floater" in it, so that it let's air out, but not fluids.
Not sure where and how it is done on the Z3.

I have been to several petrol stations and to be fair some are incredibly
fast pumps and I could imagine the air in the tank would make a
back wash tripping the handle/trigger , I once tried filling a can that had a small inlet hole,
it seemed to explode back with petrol :inpain: :nurse:, I was not a popular person at the pumps that day

For a few years now the locks on the nozzles triggers over here have been removed to stop this happening.
Got covered in diesel once when filling up my car at a pump for HGV's. It came out at a million miles per hour......!
 
Used to get this alot of the time on my old company Golf and A3, I found the easiest way was to put nozzle in 'upside' down so your pushing the trigger down and this seemed to solve the issue, think it somehow smoothes the flow so it doesn't keep knocking off the supply.
