This is confusing me a little, ladies & gents. I replaced the rear discs and pads with Brembo items. The outer pad though is not clamping squarely to the disc on both sides of the car. You can see an outer section of the disc which is shiny but the inner part of the disc is so far untouched. The inner pads are fine though.

I've taken both calipers off again to make sure the pad isn't sitting on rust etc but everything appears as it should.

I'm no expert on Z3 brakes although I've done a set recently. But that's what was happening on my old ones that caused me to replace them. I was told it could only really be the sliders or pistons. I just stripped it all down, cleaned and lub'd it and whilst I haven't done many miles on the new set-up it seems okay.

I'd start with cleaning all the corrosion off all the contact areas on the callipers.

Take the caliper carriers off the car, mount in a vice and clean back to bere metal with a wire brush.

Check the pad is not riding on the wear lip on the edge of the disc, if it is, clean the lip off with a grinder.

On reassembly, make sure everything slides and floats properly.

If you remove the callipers and then remove the rubber sleeves that the slider pins go through (noting which way they fit). The holes they fit into may need cleaning, out as corrosion can build in them, and greasing before refitting the sleeves.

Very belated thanks for spotting that - I did refit the clips but as I'm doing all the front end at the moment, I haven't been out to see if the issue is fixed yet.

Steve.
