Video Building a Sub Box for BMW Z3

I'm thinking I cant built a proper subwoofer as we don't have the space, both in volume and depth, Ant has the right idea and gone for a good mid bass instead (unless he managed to find a shallow sub bass driver that fits), I will use mdf for the front that holds the driver, shame I cant have it on view, them I could have it illuminated with a subtle led. apparently we need at least 12 litres of space for a 6.5 inch sub, think we have around 5=))

abit more done, infact i have made two, one with mdf and one without, going to see if they sound any different. supose i need to start another thread really.

the mdf should win, certainly cheaper, ( unless its free like mine ) but in such a small box and driver i dont think it will make any difference

it looks like he has turned the usual set-up upside down, I think (or so it appears ) he is using the front mesh cubby replacement thingy and I would presume there is a hole cut for the speaker, its like ants only the driver has been turned 90 degrees, not sure what he gains from this as he would now need to somehow seal it, maybe he has gained more box volume.
 
Hes using the upper half of the cubby hole as a box, bass is indirect so it may work but its not sealed.
The thread is about retrofitting roll hoops it translates in google chrome.
 
it does give an idea though, like this. put a top on it and hey loads more volume, though not as simple as the direction I was going, this subwoofer is turning out to be an interesting side project,

I looked at this but is there enough height facing it down, i know there wasn't facing it up in the space as i looked at options it would need to be mega shallow to work.
 
this is what makes it so interesting for me, its the round hole and square peg thing. not sure about the height as I haven't taken my cubby box apart yet, had a lovely sunny day today would have been ideal but I had to change my brake pads instead:banghead: having a look at Suzan's plans it would appear as though you would have slightly shy of 3 inches (taking into account the lid you would have to put on.) but then I don't have the hindsight of someone who has been there done that. stupid brake pads:( I could have made a 3d model of the actual space available today, tomorrow I'm too busy:(
 
It would be possible with the right driver but i have one of the shallowest subs i could find and it would possibly fit but facing up the lid would be really close and just vibrate.
Facing down it may work though:thumbsup:
 
the only way it would fit is if you used a inside mountable driver, no front projection. an interesting idea.
 
had a spare hour today so did abit more. I had to remove the rubber mounting ring, I may even go as far as to use shorter screws in the back of the driver, though to be fair I don't think it actually needs the screws, seems to me it just holding the rubber boot thingy on so I may remove them. I will have to mount the driver on the inside to make it fit but it is still within the 100mm of suzans so looking good to go. last pic is it mounted on the inside. I have made a right mess in the conservatory. as you can see I'm determined to use this speaker, thanks for the link Ant, I managed to find one from Thompsons for around £23
