Video Building a Sub Box for BMW Z3

Have you had them in the cubby hole yet ?

no its raining here:( annoying, just itching to get it installed and running. maybe the 5.25 would sound better once in the cubby, but in comparison errr well there just isn't any comparison, the 6.5 can just reach down much lower. on higher-mid there great they just cant cope with the lower frequency's. shame really as they could have taken a lot more oooph. but then after comparing the two boxes the Lanzar doesn't need any more ooph. now thinking damn why didn't I just go ahead and buy the kicker from the start, but then I wouldn't have had so much fun messing about with them, and I have learned a lot about ams and subs.
I may run the sub on the floor (footwell) for a while, wouldn't want it going up in smoke again while in the cubby=))

its now sitting in the footwell all wired up, have to say it sounds friggin awesome:) yippee:) that's it, think I will drive over to the Halfords car park tonight and hang out with all the 17 year olds who mess about over there=))

They list as peak 600w but i can not find an RMS power for the sub but i read through some reviews and found that 90watt rms is more than enough for it and the review says much more and you will fry it.
You want something powerful enough to run it without having to turn it up more than a quarter and then you won't stress the amp so i would look for some thing around 200w Rms and it will run it with ease.

not sure what mine is, i need to put my multimeter on it, but what i can say is if you put about 300-400 watts through the Lanzar it almost doubles in depth=)) and smoke comes out=)). but it lives to fight another day:) im running mine at about 1/3 so i would hazard a guess 100w plus or minus abit, ant is prob about right at 90w, but you dont need that much, i think ants setup is running about 75w and working well. what i can say is this cheap speaker is kicking. dont buy one until i get the chance to try it in the cubby, need to make sure it will actually fit first;)

@Sean d have you found a Lanzar? the place i got mine from is currently out of stock, i have seen some on ebay for around £78:eek: i paid about £23 for mine and wouldn't pay any more, maybe 30 at most (though to be fair it does sound like a more expensive unit) but once the rubber is removed it shows it is just a cheap made in china driver. saying that i do like it, just haven't built up trust yet, if it runs in the footwell without the smoke then all is good:)

I was watching one on ebay for £23.99 but its finished, it was from a place called Thompsons and they don't appear to have any in stock

well the sun was out today so took the zed top down to the post office during my lunch break, wanted to see what it sounded like with no top, doesnt sound any different - great. still not in the cubby yet, living in the passenger footwell, no smoke so all good, another thing is the amp is not getting hot either, just slightly warm to the touch, hardly noticeable. hopefully will still be sunny at the weekend and i can do a trial fit.
if all ok then the next part will be meshing my hatch door (if i can figure how to get it off, think there are a couple of small screws which are reachable once it has dropped down abit).

oh yeh, and hoover the carpet:)

another thing i have noticed is the tweeters, while setting up the sub and amp i turned the base down on the head unit, it was on setting 4 out of 6, i turned it to zero and used the sub for the base instead, since then i can hear parts of tracks i hadnt noticed before. now thinking that because the base was turned up (got an x base setting too but never used it) the head unit was filtering out some of the tweeter range, so all in all - win win.

A spoke to a guy a while ago in an audio shop about fitting a sub and amp, he said that will happen when using your speakers just as top end, seems he was right

I found the same once you clean the bottom end up its surprising the different sound you can get up the top.
Nice work

it fits, with room either side, now thinking do i need to go wider as this one is based on roll hoop cubby, just going to pack out with foam for now.

After looking at this photo I'm thinking I could get two of these speakers in there, I do hapen to have a spare which I brought thinking I had blown one, I could put them at ether end with a port oposite the small cubby door. Only problem here is do I load my amp with 8ohlm or risk it burning out at 2?

Loads of space the sub may benefit from a bigger box as you have room may allow for a bit more extention due to more air.
Does it sound better there?

It sounds great, still need to get the hole in the front cubby door, but it did sound better in the footwear, maybe just louder but then I still have the cubby door in the way, hight, depth is good , just need to go out sideways now, and have more volume.

I think you can unbolt the front cubby as a whole the cubby box is the same to all models as a shell you only need a frame to hold some speaker mesh in to the hole
