Mrs Calex has kindly put me put me on the right track with identifying the bmw colour used in the engine bay for Titanium silver models... I'm struggling to positively Id it though.

Any titansilber owners our there who can shed some light on it?

I looked at this site...

The under bonnet colour looks more like "Alpine white" but the inside of my engine bay is more light grey... But the "Arctic light grey" on the Web page appears too dark???

The official paint colour label on the inside of engine bay displays "Titansilber" in large font and "Arktissilber" in smaller font underneath... Would this be pointing to the "Arctic light grey" shown on this website?

Has anybody had paint successfully mixed and matched at Halfords? Or can I buy a can from elsewhere? (once I know the actual colour that is):facepalm:

Thanks Andy... If my sticker had a single colour like that it would be easy... But like I said "Titansilber" above and " Arktissilber" below... Obviously my car is titanium silver metallic but I'm trying to decifer which bits are "Arktissilber"

The engine bay and inside of my boot are an unlaquered light grey with a slight sheen... But it doesn't seem to match any of those colour swatches of that site....

What's going on? o_O
 
Oh no! I've had a sex change. It's Mr Scalex. My 1999 vintage eBay ID from when I used to deal in collectable Scalextric. Well I still do on a smaller scale. Just not on stinky eBay

Put the last 7 digits of your VIN into a BMW vin decoder (google that). It will show you the build spec including original colour with code. The code can be used by a paint mixer.

The colour code of the car is on the front strut tower under the bonnet, one side is the vin, the other side is the colour.

Your engine bay colour should be the same as your car just without the lacquer coat on top.
 
I will post a photo... It's been bugging me since I bought it... I have just assumed the main colour is Titanium silver ( and that's what it says on the original spec list using VIN code) but on the sticker on the drivers side strut housing is written "Titansilber" and underneath "Arktissilber" in smaller lettering.....so i take it everybody else just has one colour label?
 
Under the writing there should also be a number, this is the colour code.

Sorry about that... I was thinking.. Wow this girl really knows her stuff...not meaning to sound sexist....i loved scaletrix... Never lucky enough to get one though... Although I did have a matchbox racing set with a corvette and a police car...Evel kneivel was king though.
 
I think if you google it you'll find more than just that 1 discussion. Still curious what it's about though. BMW aren't know for sloppiness and errors so I suspect it has a very plausible and possibly still interesting explanation.

For avoidance of doubt when colour matching though I'd be inclined to go by what's on BMW VIN rather than your car. That's come straight off a BMW computer system. Though I'd expect both to be the same.
 
I've been lurking the forums for a long time now -- registered just for this (Sorry mods!)

Basically, BMW uses 2 different colors for their cars, the outside paint and the one under the hood/ trunklid and some other panels

They don't use metallic paints under the hood, hence why everyone's sticker has a non metallic color labeled in little letters below the primary color.

my 2.2i is topazblue, and under the hood its black. sticker says topazblau metallic -- and schwarz in little letters.
There's a thread on bimmerforums somewhere where they're discussing boston green under the hood and how its metallic variation looks like.
 
Well done Yazure. Brilliant explanation.

Now you mention it mine has 2 different colours really. On the top it says topasblau metallic and on the bottom just topasblau. So same colour but different finish. And I always thought it was just unlacquered metallic! I did always wonder how the lacquer managed to put such a sparkle on compared with the engine bay!

Now I'll be able to order the correct paint when I respray my front panel. Thank you!
