If you are thinking about a car mounted camera?
Muvi K series. Used it many times, reasonable resolution and can be operated from your phone. It's not too expensive plus quite a few mounting options even external. Comes with a fully waterproof case to use in the rain or under water (I don't recommend using it on the Zed underwater though

Trying to make sense of a series of short videos is difficult, even if you have suitable editing software. If you are travelling with a passenger you are better off with a 'real' camera such as a micro four thirds type with a wide angle lens. It would also give the passenger something to do, and provide a few good photos for your garage walls.
