I have recently obtained a BMW E46 Jack which exactly fits into the recess of the Z3 jacking pad. This places the entire load into the recess area whereas the original Z3 jack spreads the load evenly over the jacking pad. Can the jacking pad recess take the entire load?

Yes it can, I use a trolley jack with a block of wood cut to fit exactly as the one shown in the picture. My concern would be that when jacked up those jacks are very unstable, so use an axle stand underneath if you intend to work underneath the car.

Many thanks for the response. I found a thread at the following link on the safety of E46 jack. I think it will be safe if the jack is used on flat surface with the wheels choked. I also place an axle stand under the cross member as a support in case the jack slips. - Kith
