To save me taking the panel off, does the aluminium strip separate from the plastic easily.

The strip is very thin and will almost certainly be goosed if you take it off, creases in the metal. Unfortunately new ones only come attached to the plastic.

Doh!!! :arghh::arghh:

@spurs fan in a coupe ......I might be in the market for a pair if you have any really nice ones!

You ca cut the double sided between the strip and the plastic trim, just use a craft knife, as for cleaning the ally, you can't do a lot as they are clear coated, I have removed mine

I thought you painted yours up all nice body colour?

Could new ones be made in the same way (I forget his name now) is making gearknobs?

Could open a world of possibility for custom messages!

I have a cunning plan......involving progressively finer wet and dry, paint, candlewax and spray lacquer.

But if this fails......get new ones !!!=))

Well, progress so far.....

Started using 240 grit (dry) to remove the lacquer coat, then 400, 600 and 1200 with water.
Bought a cheap Toolstation polishing kit ( 3 mops and 2 polishing sticks) and have given it a basic polish so far.
And now looking much better.

The idea is to etch prime the infill, then top coat infill with tannin red ( or as close as I can get), then mask it all up and relacquer the plate.

Had to use a mains drill for the polishing mop as my battery one just not powerful enough.
Primer from screwfix.

Great job there Malc. Eager to see the end result :thumbsup:
