Am I ok to use G11 coolant in my 3.0l M54 ? Seen I could use this and/or G48..but I’ve no idea what the difference is. Both are blue

G11 and G48 are both blue-coloured coolants that use silicates to protect engines from corrosion, often used in older European vehicles. While often used interchangeably, G48 is generally a more modern, refined formula (frequently used by BMW/Mini) that offers superior, longer-lasting protection compared to traditional G11.

A tip on the deionised water situation.

80p a litre felt a bit much for me from the shops, especially as I was flushing it. Soo....

I found a company that sells pure water from self serve filling stations, you just fill up a container like a petrol pump and it's 4p per litre! Bargain!

I have an even cheaper solution on the water front mines straight from the tap as here in the south west of Scotland we have very good quality soft water.
Have always used tap water here all my days never had any cooling system issues related to it
Same as our washing machines and kettles they just dont get chemical attacked by limescale etc
This is the inside our our kettle which is probably about 8yr old still spotless inside.

Wow ..never knew that ..one not far away from me too.
Can’t use tap water in Hampshire ..you can see the lumps of limestone floating in it 😄

Yep same here! Lucky you Stevo!

My kettle would look worse that than in 8 minutes let alone 8 years! Crazy difference.

@AntStark If you set up a trade account with Spotless that brings the price down from 6p to 4p per litre and they will send you a fob to use for free. For the sake of giving them your email and telling them how you are using the water, seems good to me!

I used it the other day and it worked incredibly well, just like filling up a car. Brilliant concept imo

Hmm, having just looked at my kettle, it's not far off looking like a quarry!
