Guys I want to change the Differential oil I have not done this before:whistle:
so any hints / tips will be greatly received:thankyou:

Drive it for a good while to get it as warm as possible and drain it over night.

Tony.

Thanks Tony having not looked under the car yet I will assume that it has a drain plug? at the bottom of the Diff' so no need to siphon it?

Yes, sorry mate, never thought about that but yes it has a drain plug. Even raising the front would aid draining a little too. I changed the diff. oil in my Z3 a few months ago but couldn't leave it on a ramp overnight at work

Tony.

Two plugs on the back case, Bottom one to drain and fill it via the top one till it starts to come out then put the plug back in. :)

I think yours is the same as the 1.9 (check on real.oem) which i have done a few times. There are two plugs - fill and drain. If you drop the spare wheel out you can access them easily from rear of car with an extension bar. You will need an insert hex key socket (can't remember size - I can check tomorrow) and 2 aluminium crush washers. I would advise getting 2 new plugs as they have an integral neoprene sealing ring. They may need a bit of force to remove if they have not been out before - take the fill plug out first just incase.
As Tony said get it warm first - then drop the oil. Refill to overflow ~1litre, you can fill from squirty bottle but easier with funnel and extension hose. Give it a short run and then top up level if required. Fairly easy job as long as plugs come out. HTH

I think the plugs are 14mm Hex. if memory serves.

Tony.

Thanks for that Tony:thumbsup: out of interest what oil did you use?

To be honest I couldn't tell you the brand but it would've been what ever oil Andrew Page stock for the car.

Tony.

I used Fuchs Titan Syn5 75w-90 which is on the recommended list for non LSD diff.

I used castrol syntrax on mine.

My tip... get the oil you want then take it and the Zed to your local friendly garage who has a ramp and will do the job for you for a drink. Saves the hassle of scrabbling about under the car and struggling with the drain/fill plugs. If you do DIY Barry undo the fill plug first. Then if you can't undo it and you've already drained the diff you're not stu**ed, and off the road. BOL.

That's what I did. He did it along with the gearbox oil.

mmmm same here. I couldn't get the car up high enough (safely) so I went the local garage route. £10 to do both the diff & gearbox oil.

If you are doing it they advise you crack off the fill plug first incase its stuck the last thing you need is a drained diff and no way to fill it up again !!

I have a large syringe specially made for oil that makes job like this a lot easier, just suck it out the bottle and fill your diff or gearbox ect, nice and cheap on e-bay as well :)
