I have been wondering this for a while but I don't know if my car has an alarm, or not.
I read that the 'sensors' should be in the rear view mirror housing but I took my mirror off when I stripped the car and I now have a dash mounted mirror.
I did re-route and connect the PCB back up again (for the remote central locking) but don't remember seeing anything alarm related.
I have disconnected (or I might have just taped up) the bonnet switch.
I don't have a separate key, just one ignition with the three buttons.
The central locking all works.

My alarm (if I have one) has never gone off in all the time I have been messing with my car and it would be useful to know if I actually have one. Where would the sounder/ control box be?

My car is a NOV 2000 build date 3 litre. My insurance company have it down as having a 'factory' alarm, so I don't want any excuse for them to dodge a claim if needed.

Ta very muchly!

Put the last 7 of your chassis in vin decoder to find out if it had one on it's original build.

The alarm control box is within the ZKE 4 modules on the later Z3's.

Look for a dark red LED alarm indicator. It is usually located at the rear of the center console, between the seats. If you have one, then you have an alarm. No indicator, no alarm.

Ah yes, I forgot about the red light. I did have one of those next to the roof switch but it went in the bin and the connector taped up.
So I have (or did) have an alarm.
How can I set it off to check it works, or not?

Lock the car with the remote. Then unlock the door with the key in the door lock and open the door.

I don’t know if I’ve got one either and when I informed my insurance company they checked with and without an alarm on the policy and it didn’t affect the cost. It won’t help discover whether you’ve got one but at least you’ll be covered.

If it is the same system as the E85, lock the car with the remote and roof down. Put your hand in the car and waggle it around a while, that sets mine off.
