So after picking up my 2.8 1998 add on Monday and covering 500+ miles in 2 days after the car doing 1200 miles in the last 4 years I should have expected something.....

In for full service on Tuesday with brake & diff fluid change... Still got 2 green lights, but history shows no service since 2009 - 6000 miles ago....

So checking when temporary repairing sill ends today and noticed front Spring broken... So I will change all 4, but shocks look original so do I go for everything, or just springs if garage says shocks are ok? - Oem?

It is 18 years old.....but only 63 k

Couple more pics, while driving with broken Spring....woops....

Previous owner spent £1k on re-upholtstering in alcantara.

Nice looking Zed you must be soooo chuffed the seats looks awesome

WOW best clobber only for sitting on those seats. Re the shockers, you'll likely find that they're well past their best, especially the rears. My best advice would be to change all four corners springs and shocks.

Tony.

ps. You might be surprised how many people drive around totally unaware they have one or more broken springs,............................ until M.O.T. time that is.

Springs and shocks. The shocks will be shot. Mine are also original at 18 years old and are high up my list of jobs to be done.

Yes. I was not aware I had a rear Spring broke until the MoT garage rang me . One reason I use a garage that does a proper test ,I need to know what's wrong not just a bit of paper

She looks lovely as she sits and waits ready to drive into action.

Yes I've had that on my Fiesta twice the osf the only car I've ever had this problem

As echo'd spings and shocks, a refresh should change the drive. The seats look fantastic someone spent the money great result

Little point in not changing the shocks at the same time. If nothing else it's a great deal easier and cheaper as well as knowing they're back to original condition - do them now.

Lovely looking Z :p
Your seats are great ;)
Bet your very pleased :)

I probably have after the state of the Belgium motorways! They were that bad you deem them dangerous.

Whilst you have the suspension out I would suggest changing the front and rear top mounts. Easy to do and not very expensive.

Ok thanks guys...looks like springs, shocks & mounts.......great!

Would normally just let the garage put on their wholesale parts, but have noticed bilstein kits with eibach springs for about the same price, but bit concerned at lowering 30 MM. Ish....

Would think new standard set up would still be a great improvement over existing?

Yep @Redsheep. If your shocks are 18 odd years old they will be absorbing nowt. Can't wait to get mine sorted but as always the pennies say when it's allowed!

Replaced my old suspension with Sachs springs and shocks (same as original), SKF front mounts and Meyle rear mounts. Car was coming up for 90K miles and now rides better, absorbing bumps rather than bouncing off them. I did not want to lower the height as I think (and many will disagree) it looks okay and is practical for uneven roads and speed bumps. I think the choice is down to your preference and suitability for the roads you drive on.
I would also consider replacement of your ARB bushes and drop links if they are still original.

Most definitely new standard items will give you much improved ride and handling, it will be almost like new. If you're not wanting to lower the car specifically this is your best option.

Tony.

I will be changing mine at some point but have looked for the sport springs but cant find them anywhere let alone the shocks... I don't want mine any lower as it looks good with the 15mm drop but still high so I don't hit the bumper on kerbs in car parks ;)
