hi all,

As I don’t know when or if ever the oil was change in my Gearbox or Diff was changed I would like to replace them. I have been quoted £107 for the work but think this might be a tad excessive. Can I ask what you think?

I’m no mechanic but have common sense and a socket set....can if this myself cheaper ? Is it easy and accessible without a ramp ?

Many thanks

jon

Zedshed (Midlands) will be open in the near future Jon?

Tony.

You will need to raise the car and also a length if tube to refill the Diff. and G/box oils.

Tony.

I did that service about 5 years ago, I paid rough $55 US and supplied my own Royal Purple oil for both because I wanted a premium oil to smooth out the gearbox and work its magic in the differential.

Pair of drive up ramps or trolly jack and a pair of axle stands, oils of your choice or recommended and a funnel and a length of plastic hose to fill the gearbox and diff from above by running the hose down through the engine bay to the filler plug on the gearbox. Run the hose down behind the o/s rear wheel to the filler hole on the diff. Tip, make sure you can undo the filler plugs before draining the gearbox and diff. Make sure you have the correct size hex bits to undo the filler plugs.
Check owners manual or label on the gearbox for what type of oil it takes, some take ATF.
You will certainly notice an improvement to gear changes with fresh fluid in it.
Opie oils will supply oils you need andf give you a zroadster discount. Check their website.

Made a huge improvement to mine when I did this, well worth doing. It's a pretty simple job using the info already given but if the midlands zed shed is going to be open soon I'd do it there. Makes a load of difference having someone who knows what they are doing around when you do these things the first time! Second recommendation for Opie, give them a call and they will tell you what you need.

Made big improvement to gearchange , again Opie the best option for oils.
I also obtained new plugs just in case I damaged them on removal.
Ensure you can get top one out prior to removing drain plug

Just a slight bump on this post form many moons ago, Do we know how much oil the auto box holds?

Depends on which auto box you have but the one on my 3.0l took 6 litres. Febi do a good kit with the oil, filter and new gaskets etc. Think I got it from AUTODOC
