Our z3 is an individual model, does anybody know how many (or few) of these cars were made? Do you think this could increase future values or does it not really matter?
Just curious really.

I've always found "rarity" an interesting concept, and I think in this case "desirability" is a better word. If I was looking for another Z3, would I be looking for a rare one, or for one which hit the buttons for me.

That said, the individuals are rarer taking in the total number of "standard" Z3s manufactured. Standard being a subjective word, and in this case to differentiate between Individuals and non-Individual cars!

Hi ash, not 100% on it but I think you could choose any colour combination for the interior including options unavailable on the normal options list, mine has "individual" sill strips and an under bonnet plaque.
Regards

BMW Individual was introduced to allow customers greater flexibility in getting the car they wanted. Had an extended range of paint colours, wheel choice, interior colours and so on. Cars that are bought though the Individual scheme are tagged as Smartbear mentions, with the engine bay sticker and door sills.

Essentially just a way to make your Z3 stand out from the crowd, and BMW to extract some extra cash from you at point of sale. The still run the individual scheme on new cars if I recall correctly.

I agree totally with Gaz, when it comes time to sell you will likely find a small number of people that will be too concerned about the individual aspect as opposed to checking their boxes. JIM
ps: I love it by the way!!

As for value, with cars it is always down to what someone is willing to pay.

I suppose that by using "standard" paint and trim choices you are appealing to the vast majority of potential buyers, as these combinations are designed not to offend the tastes of Mr and Mrs Average.

When you start giving potential buyers a much freer choice you will get some quite garish combinations which will put off more potential buyers than attract them. Having said that I love the colour scheme on the OP's car and I don't recall seeing a Z3 (yet) whose paint and trim would put me off ....but I'm sure there must be some out there!

The minty green ones are grim... Sorry to any owners on here, but I can't stand it. And I owned a Phoenix Yellow M3 for six years...

If we all liked the same thing this forum would be just another amongst thousands. Individual tastes differ, bottom line, but it's the person behind the wheel that make us better than the others! JIM

I like the colour its different.
It would not put me off looking at it if I was buying, but would not pay extra.

I too have a z3 individual. looks very similar to yours (smartbear) . Mine is a 2.2 in saphire black with walnut leather interior. l think the title "individual" attracts some attention, but ultimately it is the condition of the car that controls the price. Somewhere else on this site you can get a link to provide you with the as built specification of your individual car using your serial number.

Individual's are just that, but anyone's car is their own individual car by way of what ever mods. etc that the owner carries out. What ever car I have owned or will own will always be "mine" by virtue of the things I change. Each to their own.:)

for me, having a rare OEM part is what its all about, ive mainly dealt with hondas up to this and have waited years for some small part to pop up on the market, it will be the same for the Z, i will be on the look out for any rare or different OEM parts. Even if i dont like the look of whatever i am buying i still want it just on its rarity ;-) wont pay crazy money for anything either, i find if you wait long enough the part you are looking for will pop up somewhere at the right price for you

Before i changed i used to have a 2Ltr individual that was Cosmic black i think and it too had the yellow and
black seats, they were called Arizona sun and black from what i remember. Nice looker in my opinion
but when i put it in for the Alpina the garage sales said, "Ah nice colour but will only be attracted to the few
so will be difficult to move on" When i checked he had sold it 3 days later!!
Its going to depend on who's looking at the time, but i don't think it will bring more money.:(
