How to remove petrol from the tank

Fuel is not getting to the plugs and I believe the fuel pump is not working. I've disconnected the fuel pump connector and measured the resistance between the 2 thick supply leads (Green/Violet tracer and Brown) as 0.6ohms.I applied 12v to these connections but no effect. It certainly seems as if the pump is dead.
I've undone the big knurled retaining ring and teased the assembly out of the rubber seal and petrol started pouring out.(I rapidly pushed the assembly back into its rubber seal.....)
I've tried to syphon petrol out of both metal fuel pipes coming out of the assembly but can't get the petrol to flow out.
How do I get petrol out so I can remove the assembly?
Any help would be much appreciated.

Just had a quick look at TIS and it refers to using hose down filler pipe and vacuum unit - didn't think anti-syphon would allow this - will have a closer look tomorrow if nobody else comes up with anything in meantime.

Thanks for getting back quickly,Jonco. I didn't try a hose down the filler pipe as I too thought there was bound to be an anti-syphon perforated filler neck going to the tank.
I'm sure every other car I've had was fitted with one.
I'll try this morning.
 
There is no anti-syphon in the tanks, a hose in the petrol filler will allow you to drain it no problems.
 
In the only manual I have it states that the fuel tank cover locks, but mine does not have a locking mechanism for the cap or the cover. Is that the same for everyone else out there with a 2001 Zed? Anyone at any time can collect as much fuel from me as they want, I don't like that.

Yup, that's the one! If anyone wants free fuel [the good stuff] just find my car parked on the street and help yourself. ;) Just leave me enough to get to the petrol station to get some more.
 
You should be able to buy a 'universal' filler cap with lock but you will obviously have a separate key.

You should have a little plunger that pops out when you lock your car with the central locking. I have known sometimes for the it either get stuck or even snapped off or possibly a previous owner had problems with it and removed the solonoid entirely. If you peal back the boot lining under the boot lid you can get access to it and see if it is there.

I did notice a little green round thing about 2 O'clock area and wondered what it might be. Possibly is the locking device?
 
No it should be around the 9 o'clock position as you look at the fuel flap recess.
 
ye - on mine, no lock on the cap - but locks with the central locking...
having said that - never any fuel in it - too busy enjoying it :)

Is that the parts top left in the drawing?

You could also buy a locking gas cap. Either OEM or perhaps aftermarket?
 
Yes that's it No. 2 is the solonoid and No. 20 is the Pin on the end of a cable. Also part no. 23 which is accessable in the boot is a manual release incase you can't get in.
 
This is interesting because my car has this locking pin but it doesn't operate so I will have to investigate as to why. Just one of things which tend to get put on the back burner as the weather improves I guess.;)
