Is there meant to be a gap here? (Hood/door/body junction)

Not sure if the photo is very explanatory but the area shown is where hood meets the body at the rear of doors.
In the pic the door is open.
The little gap I refer to is not that clear in the pic but it is the sort of triangular void.
I can see into the car from there.
Bearing in mind I have the interior carpet that sits in the hood storage area removed whilst sorting a leaking hood frame seal.
This little gap is in the area where the so called drains that run internally so wondering if this gap is intentional for that purpose?

Also, the soft rubber gasket between the hood and the body does not look quite right. Here's my gasket and joint cover.
I don't think the Z3 has any drain in this area. The Z4 does, but those who have taken the insides out of a Z3 say there is no hole under here. I think because the Z4 did, we all assumed the Z3 did.

One would think so, but apparently it does not. The only actual showing of such holes is in Z4 and E36 forums.

In various Z3 forums, I and others assumed the Z3 must also have the holes and posted on them. Here is one of mine:

However, no one has come up with a photo or other proof of Z3 boot well drain holes, and one poster on a Z3 forum finally said that in the course of removing his interior for other reasons, he found no such drain holes.

Nope there is an internal drain hole just under the gap shown on Dino D's Photo. It is in the form of a type of open box section that collects the water from the hood and channels it into a drainage hole.Proof at last..

Thanks @TaffZee, exactly what I was about to explain. I found this out with the first roof I fitted.

My Z3 (narrow body) is as @vintage42 's photo but there is a drainage hole at the inner right edge of the sleeve which leads to the drainage channel mentioned by @Lee and @TaffZee. Whenever I wash the car I run a hose pipe onto the hood and check that it drains through to the lower outlet.
 
It's a bit like the drain below the fuel filler, since I had Dynorod clear mine I check it after every wash!

It is not clear where the drain hole is in your photo. Do you have the ability to circle or point to the drain hole, and repost the photo?
Where would this drain discharge to?
 
The drain hole is to the front of the box section, not visible on the photo, but it is there.and I think it discharges just to the front of the wheel arch.

To vintage42: Wait a minute I will just remove my roof to take a picture of the drain hole. Jeez why cant you just accept it is there from someone who actually knows. If you want to make a debate of it I suggest you know what you are talking about in the first place (through personal experience and not from third party posts) stop being a nihilist THE DRAIN HOLE IS THERE. I give up Debate over.

Someone else said they were in there and did not find a drain hole. I do not know what I am talking about. I don't want to debate. I collect information. There is conflicting information. I could conclude that some cars have a hole and other do not. I only asked if there was a photo.
I have enjoyed this forum, but find the tone combative now and am leaving.

I'm going to ask you to take a close look at this pic again and listen to what I tell you. Look at the piece of metal that has a 90 degree bend in it. The top of this has a rubber black cover. Notice the hole in the side of this piece of metal. This is a screw access hole to fit in a screwdriver to get at the last screw holding in the bow that holds the bottom edge of the roof along the back of the car. This bow sandwiches the roof and a strip of calk to the back of the car.

Water that drains down the back of the car does not or should not get past the sandwiched calk but runs along the top of this calk to either side of the car and drains into the small compartment you see in the picture made by the piece of metal with the rubber top. If you place your finger into this compartment and move your finger along the bottom of this compartment towards the front of the car, you will feel the hole in the front of this compartment. Your small finger can almost fit into it. It is just out of sight in this picture but is there. When I replaced my roof, I got the nozzle of my air compressor and blew compressed air into it, then poured water into this small compartment to see if it drained, which it did, on the ground directly below this hole. I'll try to locate the picture I have of this. Frankie

I seem to have an opening there too and I think you're right about the piece that goes there. Don't know what happened to the old one?
