Hi folks,

I've got a small oil leak that looks to be coming from the top corner of the engine block on my 2.8 (have aded a photo). I'm thinking it's the head gasket but just want some reassurance from a more experienced eye!

If it is the head gasket, has anyone used Steelseal on theirs to sort it??

Doubt its the head gasket. The oil jacket is on the inside of the gasket. More likely to be the rocker cover or solenoid seal.

Struggling to get my head round the orientation of that photo.

Looks like an oil leak, but not sure where it is coming from. You should clean that area off and run the engine until it starts to seep out again.
Remember gravity dictates the leak comes from up above but like Lee above I cant tell exactly what I am looking at either.

Ditto to all the above.

Tony.

Glad you all like the angle of my photo! I was lying underneath the engine with the car up on a block at the time, so that you could see the route of the oil down to where it's collecting.....but guess it's not that obvious!

Bare with me whilst I take a pic from above

Please see photo from where the leak is coming..... finally got my camera flash to work!

More likely the rocker cover leaking I would suspect. If you wash the area down with a spray can of brake cleaner and keep your eye on it over a few days you will see where the oil starts to eminate from.

I wouldn't say so, no. It will make a mess but nothing serious to be concerned about. A little oil does go a long way, sometimes at work we clean engines to trace an oil leak and they never come back, as the leak has accumulated over a long time and takes an equally long time to show itself.

I agree with giving it a good clean and nothing to panic about as far as oil lose goes. If you were seeing puddling under the vehicle and having to add oil to top it up then more of a problem. As Tony says a little oil goes a long way and it looks far worse than it is usually. Let us know how things shake out!! JIM
