Jacking advice

I am sure this has been asked before..but…I want to put one (rear) side of my car on an axel stand so I can have a look at the brakes.

Do I … a) Jack the car up at the jacking point and put the stand under the sills or b) Jack the car up on the sills and put the axel stand in the jacking point?

Finally is the diff body a safe place to jack up both sides at once? Going to use a bit of wood in between.

You can put your jack under the diff and lift both rear wheels at the same time and then put the axle stands under the jacking pad. You might need to "jack and pack" several times to get the car high enough to get the stands under though. It can depend on if your car is lowered or if your jack is a "low height" jack.

I use two trolley jack and support the car on wooden blocks under the cross member. Then is necessery I use the jacks to raise the front end, and support it under the outer ends of the wishbones, on the ball joints.

I dislike the idea of using axle stands under the plastic jacking points, as the top of the stands does not fit the jacking pad. However, a piece of 20 mm square steel tube welded to the axle stand will engage in the jacking pad safely.

For an additional £30 trolley jack and some large chunks of wood you can work in safety.

I remember this being the oddest thing.. jack up front first to have rear pad unused . Was feeling rather high up . Best take it to Munich Legends or similar

I purchased some hard plastic jacking blocks from eBay (about £9 ish if I recall) to use with my trolley jack, works well. They fit snuggly into the existing sill jacking points.
