Hi there,

I'm currently waxoyling anything that looks to have the potential to rust underneath my 2.8 z3, I've noticed a few extra things that may need my attention, one being a rather rusty manifold. Would there be must benefit to performance by installing a larger bore manifold or just finding oem one? Access to the manifolds looks damn tight.....am I best to seek out a professional for such a job??

I also look to have pretty rusty brake calipers and a leak on the head gasket.......baptism by fire for a newbie like me!

I am sure the tech zedders will be along shortly to help
Good luck with your project

There isn't really much choice for aftermarket manifolds for the right hand drive Z3. I know @PeterJ looked for a performance manifold for his, but couldn't find a reputable supplier.

Seems to be plenty of LHD choices available though which is annoying.

Yeah it looks that way Gaz
When I Google z3 manifolds there seems to be a lot of talk about an m50 big bore conversions (whatever that is!) Or custom companies like prospeed talking about custom exhaust systems, tune up, remaps etc.
It may be something that requires secret fund saving in an offshore account unknown to my wife!!

I was talking about the exhaust manifolds is what I think you meant.

There is also a modification where you can (on certain engines) switch the inlet manifold to increase the air intake to the engine and subsequently increase the engine power. Supposed to go from about 195 to 225/230bhp.

It's only ever going To be as good as the smallest restriction diameter in the induction loop, and this will be the head ports themselves; although you will get a little increase from the volume change of a large bore throttle or manifold, if you do not also have the head ported to match the inlets you will not get the full benefit, you also need to consider how you will also get that extra volume out, so consideration to the exhaust side of the head and manifold. After all that, in order to have it all working in harmony, you should get it remapped to take into account the volume changes and adjust the fuel / air ratio otherwise you risk pinking and burning valves and pistons over the long haul.

Wow zorg that's what I call a comprehensive answer lol!

Sounds v much along the lines of everything that prospeed state, in that once you alter one part you need to do the lot. I'm guessing they'd be no change from a grand at the end of all that! Think I'll concentrate on getting my little beauty rust free for now, and if she's lucky fit a tasty looking k&n filter to her

I've cheated Jim, all the bits are being assembled at a secret location should be back on the road very soon...

I could only find one supplier Worldwide of Exhaust Headers (exhaust manifolds) for RHD Z3 2.8 but they seem a mysterious company (Australia) with no contact phone or address) so I did not have confidence to place an order: http://www.motorsportsdownunder.com/catalog/i15.html
