I noticed today that there appears to be a couple of nuts missing on the manifold.

From the photo attached, please can someone confirm whether there should be a nut here.

Thanks

I think they're M10 copper nuts. I had to buy some when I replaced my head gasket. Got mine from Sopers BMW. It's been 6 years ago now so I may be wrong on the size. @Lee would know

Thanks. I was given a couple of copper ones but they just went round and round and access was difficult.

This could well be the cause of all your issues. you'll be loosing vacuum and sucking air in! I think they're M7 nuts using a 11mm socket, very BMW specific.

Having just taking my intake off my m52tu, I can fully confirm as Lee says they are M7 nuts using a 11mm socket. And there is definitely meant to be a nut there. However my nuts were not copper.

Hope I can help, Chris.

How did you access them? They are very difficult to reach. Magnetic socket? Thanks

I had all the other bits around it off of mine (as I was taking the whole manifold off), like the air distributor thing, the fuel rail, injector wiring rail etc

However, I did at one point shove some magnets into a socket, not sure if it was for these nuts, but worked a treat anyway!

Chris.

Thanks Chris. Ant stark and I were trying to put some copper ones on today but they just spun. Then we grabbed a couple off what looked like a 5 series in the breakers but again no luck. I suspect the nuts are BMW only and cost about £25 each and are shipped from Germany

M7 11mm did seem an odd size to me at the time

Bmw's and their quirks

Luckily I have had good experiences so far of parts coming from Germany, being delivered in about 6-9 days

Is that £25 a nut!! Surely not!!

Good luck! Chris.

They're not that expensive, at most a couple quid. The copper nuts are exhaust nuts so they'll be too big.

I joke…..after they wanted £503 for one solenoid

Peugeot use 7mm nuts on various parts on their older vehicles, so did Talbot. I have some if you get stuck.

Tony.

I don’t know if these have been off long term or whether the manifold was removed when the PCV was replaced last week.

The PCV needed replacing last week and I don’t know if they took the manifold off.
