Manual Hood

I disconnected mine when I put my hard top on and haven't bothered reconnecting it after I took it off.

There you go, nip round to @Jack Ratt and buy his , you get electric hood he gets weight saving. Everyone's a winner. =)) Failing that Andy's your man.:)

To be honest for the time it take to close/ open a manual I wouldn't bother myself. One more thing to repair!! JIM

Highly recommend electric hood if you use the car regularly and in any weather, I find it great for putting it back on when the rain starts?
If you do it right by keeping your foot on the brake you can operate the hood whilst moving along slowly too. You could always leave that brake switch out on your retrofit install but don't get too ambitious with the speed at which you can drive whilst opening/closing the hood!
The Z3 hood seems very reliable unlike the Z4 units (I believe water gets in on the Z4 otherwise they ok). There is nothing much to it really...

Thank's for the replies, I will give it some thought. As we have decided to keep the Z, I thought I would ask as my wife complains that she hasn't the strength to open or close the manual hood. But I thought that I could keep the manual hood just add the electrics etc. But that appears to be a no no.

Is your Firenza the 2.3

Well it was. That's to say I have sold the car on a couple of years ago. I still love the car and keep the picture as my screen saver. It's my all time favorite car bar none, and I wish I hadn't sold it but time moves on. As you may know Vauxhall's were rot boxes and it was starting to show it's age. It is a 1976 H P Firenza 2300 single cam. I had owned it for 25 years.

If I remember correctly a guy called Bill Blidenstein or something very similar was a tuning specialist on those 2.3 engines, both single and twin cam versions. I think he prepared the rally cars

I liked the Firenza too. I had a 1978 Chevette, bought it new in August 1978. It was only the 1256cc engine but I loved it.

Unfortunetly my arms don't reach far enough to clamp the top down so need to stop anyhow unless Trinity is with me then we've managed to close it while slowly rolling and she closes the clamp! JIM

The Chevette with the 2.3 lump was quite fun too Garry and they were around at the same time as the Talbot Lotus Sunbeam. Another beast.

Tony.

I also had A Vauxhall Chevette H S 16 valve twin cam rally car circa Pentti Airikkala. and a later H S R 16 valve twin cam. Absolutely awesome car. Could tell you a story about the H S R.
