I took my door card off to sort out my door latch, but realised when I took it off that my car doesn't have the midrange door speaker (larger speaker next to the tweeter). So I thought I would buy one and fit it, as the wiring for it was there

However, when I plug it in, to what can only be the correct connector, it doesn't generate any sound when playing a song.

So it seems I have to retrofit a crossover network, has this been done? Can anyone recommend a part?

Thanks, Chris

When you say the 'correct' connector, are you sure? There are three 'plugs' in the doors (apart from the locks and windows wiring); one is for the tweeter, one is for electric mirror and I thought the other was for a door airbag, which most UK cars don't have.

I could be wrong, of course. I will look it up in my Bentley's manual but that is probably going to be as much use as a chocolate fireguard.

Now i thought that the bigger tweeter in the door was only on Harmon Kardon equipped zeds.
3 of my zeds are stock radio and use the smaller hole.
My silver zed has Harmon fitted and uses the bigger hole and nothing in the small one.

First of all see if you have current on the cable.
If not, bridge the wires from the tweeter and check it your midrange works.
what setup do you have?
Six speakers (doors, footwell, rear behing the seats) or also there is a sub?
Cables are there but not all of them are "hot" at the no sub setup.

So this was my thought process on this...

I noticed I was "missing" a speaker when I took my door card off, as I assumed there would be two in the door, because of the holes. I did a bit of research on RealOEM and the second midrange speaker, came on 2 of the 3 sound systems, the Hifi and the HK.

On the video I watched to remove the door card, US zed, he had two speakers in the door, and the connector for his midrange was the same as a connector I had in my door, that wasn't being used. Both him and I have a bright yellow tweeter connector and a black "supposed" midrange connector.

These are the photos from his video, showing both connections in use by two speakers.

Picture above shows my connector.

So I made what seems to be a bold assumption that I could just get a midrange and plug it in, maybe get a crossover network and have it work

The midrange I got does perfectly connect onto my black connector

Thanks, Chris

That was my next plan too, current on cable and speaker test.

No sub, but footwell, rear behind seats and one in door, so in RealOEM terms I've got the stereo system
