booked my z in today for mot, sure it would pass mot till i got there tryed the washers out, and they failed just bits of water hitting the bonnet, poked a pin down the holes got the drivers side working but not near side, pulled the cover of the bonnet and both 1 way valves were blowing water out of the pressure holes, meaning they had both failed, had a word with the mot guy told him one jet was hitting the screen both sides he said if they both dont hit the screen then its a fail if it fitted it has to work, cancelled the mot took the 1 way valve of the near side and all works well booked it back in for thursday, wont be able to get the valves till after that but at least all 4 jets are hitting the screen....dont they know most of us only go out in the sun and dont need washers;) and before i get a lot of comments on you should have checked it before i went it was fine on sunday:(
 
Usual cause is a little gauze filter on the bottom of the pump in the washer bottle getting bunged up but sounds like you have it in hand.
 
plenty of pressure with out the 1 way valves fitted so i have put it it down the the valves being blocked
 
no the gut is a bit of a jobs worth, i knew that before i went but it is close to were i work and i am 99% it would pass but that 1 % as caught me out with this guy before number plate bulb on one car battery bracket on another, all fails, seems crazy that he fails it you take it away 15mins later you are back and he has to check it again no charge to me :banghead:
 
sure is and you cant complain, on the battery bolt i had the car 5 years and did know it was missing and he mot 3 times before he spotted it when i told him he had passed it the last 2 times, his answer was the law as changed this year .....right
 
Windscreen washers only have to supply " sufficient" fluid to clear the screen. If each side has 2 jets and each has 1 blocked its pass and advise. IF the n/s is totally blocked but you can realign one of the o/s ones to hit the left side of the screen and provide sufficient fluid, again it's pass and advise only. The M.O.T. testers manual is available to see/download online.

Sounds like you've had history with this place? I would take my business elsewhere.

I must admit when I got my Z this summer only one side of washers were working, I was surprised how easily the components came apart and stripped it completely down including removing the washer bottle, as Aceman said the gauze was just floating in the bottom of the bottle. A good blow out of the tubes/valves and jets and it was like new. Probably a good maintenance job once a year I would suggest and just before the MOT !!
 
I also replace my wiper blades once a year too.:)

My Z failed the MOT a few months back on emissions, the tester then added some fuel additive and passed it on a retest straight away. Not sure why he had to fail it first though :(

On an M.O.T. test there are 4 things that are measured by equipment, Headlight alignment, brake efficiency, tyre tread depth and exhaust emission. If the car passes or fails the emission test you will get a print out of the result. End of. ?????
 
If you went for an MOT Bad Boy you would fail on brain alignment........

I got an MOT failure notice on the grounds of emissions but no print off of the emissions, along with a MOT certificate and the emissions readings from the subsequent test. I just thought it would be simpler to rerun emissions test after the fuel additive and then pass the car rather than report a fail and pass in the same afternoon.

Statistics I would guess.
It is usually proper practice to test, log, fail/pass, then rectify, test again, etc. Just imagine if the fuel additive did not work... hence the fail. We don't have MOT here but reading the posts this makes sense to me even if it was annoying to you guys. Cheers.
 
Testing stations are obliged to issue print outs of emissions tests, you are well within your rights to ask for it. It's the only way you can tell if the emission test has been conducted properly or NOT.

Should have been listed as an advisory with an MOT pass, if no other issues were found.

What this is all about phil, is that the car passes the criteria "at the time of test". IF a tester is caught passing a vehicle which doesn't meet the test criteria by the DVSA he/she can incur penalty points which can ultimately lead to disqualification from testing and maybe lead to losing their job. I'm sure you would agree a small inconvenience to you is not worth someone losing their job? This is why a free re-test was introduced, way back, to alleviate the bad feelings people may feel towards having to take a vehicle back for re-test.
Please don't think I'm preaching here, I'm not, I'm just hoping to clear up some misconceptions the general public have towards, what is a very important practice of keeping us all safe on the roads.:):):)
