Mould on seats advice please

Posting on behalf of fellow Z3 owner @Christopher unfortunalety he has mould on the seats due to a leaky hood and asked what is the best product to use. So who best to ask to get a proper answer YOU fellow Z PEEPS :happy:

No one denying he's probably the most accomplished Master beater and polisher on this forum with all the practice he does, just offering up options in case he's out on an extended drive in his zed!!
 
Good Morning, Im also having a mould problem, but mine is on the inside of the roof, Ive tried cleaning it with warm water, but it returns, the car is under cover outside at the moment, with a so called breathable cover over it, Im thinking of opening the windows slightly to get more air circulated, I will try the milton solution but need to make sure it wont damage the fabric, a lot of mould killers have bleach in them which will ruin the fabric, any advice welcome,

@Grant, you need to try the Milton solution on an inconspicuous location before committing to a larger area.
 
Thanks Gaz, I dont think I will be using Milton as I have checked the manufacturers info and it contains bleach, I sure this would not be good for the fabric roof !!!!!!, I will continue to use warm water and a small amount of soap and keep wiping it down, I wont have this issue when the weather improves as the roof will be down and the fresh air will kill the mould !!!!

Thanks Steve, I will google it (other search engines are vailable) and see if I can get any locally and see what is in it, you mention no ventilation, so opening the windows slightly may help possibly then
 
I'm with gaz as a cure

Don't use the Milton neat....water it down 50/50 and try it

Killed all the mould and green algae on my softop ....no bleach marks or fading and you could see it removing it

I then re proofed it and it's never come back.....
 
Thanks all for your suggestions! I read that this is due to no ventilation but i want to clarify that this is not the case. The windows are always kept either fully down or half way down under a breathable cover.
Until now i have been able to wipe away the mould when it returns, but it is now beginning to stain so i need some other solution than water and cloths. I was thinking of purchasing http://www.amazon.co.uk/Simply-Leather-Remover-fungus-cleaner/dp/B00EOOO1YO - states it is safe to use on leather and will kill the mould
 
Hi Christopher
If you are getting mould it is because there is damp in the car. I would suggest you have the seats out as soon as you can and lift the carpet to see if there is any water lying under them. There is an awful lot of foam under the carpets which will hold water and the carpet pile will not feel wet.
Once you have cured the damp problem you can deal with the symptoms.
 
I cant take the seats out unfortunately but im sure it will dry out in the summer. I drive with the air conditioning and heat on full anyway. The product i bought on Amazon says it kills the mould and prevents re-occurance
 
I had mould on our seats,we got hold of a little fan heater left it running for a week sorted the problem and so far 2 years later it hasn't come back. I take no responsibility for your car going up in flames lol
