I have been trying to clean up the '96 Z3 for sale. Just went out to the car to start it to move it into the shade so I can clean and wax door jams and sills as I have already done the outside of the car. It won't start. The ignition turns to on and everything lights up but starter does not actuate when turning the key to 'start'. I think it could be a bad battery in the key and the car doesn't recognize it, but before I try to replace it, which I have never done and not sure how to do it, I'd thought I'd run it past you guys.. Its 1:30 PM now..I'll wait for a reply.. Frankie

I would think the battery is below required voltage nit totally flat but not enough to turn the starter motor so the module won't let it start. Stick it on charge or jump it from another car.

Did you shut the boot properly or had the doors open when polishing as the interior lights could have drained the battery enough.

How long since it was started last @FRANKIE three month of not recharging with even just your clock ticking away uses power and if new battery wasn't 100% charged it may need a boost. Does it click when you activate the key?

Just stick it on charge now rather than writing here then report back:):)

Immobiliser? Had a similar problem on the C-in-C's Ford Galaxy last year FRANKIE. Immobiliser wire came loose and touched a heat source and burnt the wire through.

I believe so. Everything lights up and the warning sounds when the door is open and the key is on. I'll send pics now of key and how to open. looks simple but don't want to fzzz it up.

No reaction but everything's hot. Windows won't budge..If the battery was low, they might try to move or struggle but there is no movement. This shouldn't be if everything else is hot, there should be window movement no matter how slow. Something's blocking it Its like my 325ci that did almost everything but start until I got a new key. sending pics of key in 1 minute.

Have you charged your battery, cos starting it the other day took more out than you put in.mine does it all the time
