Anyway have an answer for Frankie...although if he he gets it wrong it could be messy. Take 1 z3m and attach rope to 2nd z3.....ask wife or one of your most intelligent dogs to sit in 2nd car...attach a rope....select neutral ..pop off down to walmart and at some time during the Journey get driver 2 to select 3rd gear...drop the clutch and "jobs a goodun".....
Does it have to be Walmart or will Target do?

Well on reflection if you add a tracker to the car and it doesn't start .....leave it at walmart and when someone steals it after hotwiring or something similar track it down late in the night and retrieve it.....a screwdtiver rather than a key might be of more use though
It will be useful to search the ignition in the night....
You'd know, you practically live there.

Thank you for your good wishes. It was the battery. In retrospect, I can understand how this happened. In getting the car prepared for sale, while cleaning it, I had the doors and trunk opened for hours. While the battery is new, and it comes charged, I usually put the charger on it to assure a full charge, I did not do this. It must seem quite clear to most of you that this was the problem. However, we all go down different roads and have different experiences and that is what we draw on in our time of need. Let me explain where I was coming from. Most of you know that I had purchased a BMW 325ci. When I went to start this, everything lit up when turning the key to on but the car didn't start. It turned out after a long series of experiments that the key had a transponder in it which was recognized by the EWS system in the car. The battery in the key powered this transponder. I didn't know if this was the same case with my car. I didn't think it was but think of the processes that could occur. I could have gone down to the basement to find the charger, brought it upstairs and out to the car. Go get and extention cord and hook everything up, turn on the electric ..........Got to go back to baccarat.....next break......
Continued............Then charge the car for an hour or two or three, only to find out upon trying to start it that it was a key issue. I felt it was much easier to pop open the key at the kitchen table, throw in a new battery and run out to the car to test it out. If I'm wrong, I've only wasted 5 minutes, and I already know that the battery is definitely bad as the light in the key doesn't work. What did I lose, 5 minutes to definitely rule out the key battery. I could then continue with setting up the battery charger, which is what I did. Seems much more intellegent and reasonable to me, but then again, everyone's different and thinks differently.................. While that initially makes sense, I have 3 BMWs and each one has a different key. It seemed, by its construction, as you can see in the pictures, to be a rather simple design and simple to open, which turned out to be a correct observation. Poping it open with the screwdriver took all of 5 seconds. Once it was opened, I was 98% sure it had nothing to do with the ignition. It only took another 15 seconds to walk out to the car and resolve any remaining questions. .............Hook up the bat charger......you were right.
