New guy w/question about fog lights

Just picked up a 2000 Z3 yesterday, and am trying to figure out where things are. The fog lights are a projector type and have an illuminated outer part when running lights are turned on like the headlights. For the life of me, I cannot find the switch to turn them on.

actually, I have another question too. Are these cars suppose to have an HID headlights? I noticed when I turned mine on, they had a warm up period before they were at full brightness. Am thinking about just installing a quality low beam LED bulb for headlights.

Any info much appreciated.

Hi mate the fog light switches (buttons) are under the steering wheel below the dash binnacle. HID are not a standard fit :thumbsup:
 
To be road legal HID headlamps must have auto levelling & headlamp washing - and the housing needs to be type approved for HID use (the last point also applies for LED use).

You cannot just retro fit HID or LED bulbs into the standard housings as they were not designed for this use and you are running the risk of your insurers voiding your policy in the event of an accident.

The only legal options are to replace with full LED/HID compliant units (and I doubt that those units you have there are - certainly there are no washer units) or to fit halogen bulbs. For the latter I recommend PIAA bulbs - extremely bright & fully road legal.

is that in the UK or the US? looks to me like @Viclava is from across the pond judging by the front number plate holder... and the steering wheel being on the passenger side :)
 
Sorry that's UK - as this is a UK forum I sort of assume owners on here are UK based.
 
that's an interesting point about the HIDS needing washers too
