I did give the HGV room to move around the roundabout but he decided the white line lane marking is just for decoration it seems.
I was pretty much stationary at the entrance to the roundabout but he turned so sharply across, the side of the trailer went all along the car and caught the front wheel and dragged me to the point you see here.
Anyway does anyone think this will polish out....it also wrecked all four wheels the offside being forced up the kerbing tearing the tyres off.

More than a little upset....

Was it a RHD truck? Biggest causes of these type of incidents are speed (the truck going onto the roundabout far too fast) and the fact these roundabouts are far too small. Lincoln by-pass is a prime example

Tony.

It was a Solvenian driver in a Polish reg truck, left hand drive with cameras in place of mirrors, couldnt speak a word of English and Police used translator app to communicate with him.
That particular roundabout has plenty of room but even so I am always careful to allow wriggle room for trucks but this guy turned so much he almost went over the island with the front wheels of the truck, thats why I ended there, if you could follow the line of the car it goes across the kerbing.
It was only because it tore the nearside wheel of the car almost off, the truck left me there.

The dash cam footage shows absolutely no doubt as to who is at fault and the Police and my insurers at this point are confident it will be down to the third party.
I live in Milton Keynes and we are not short of roundabouts here and sometimes it can be vague who is responsible but there is little doubt here.
I have lived here for 50 years so am very practised at roundabout use.....and a dash cam is worth its weight in gold.

You were lucky.

Trucks from eastern europe often don't have the proper side guards that stop bikes going under under the trailer. If the bars are missing it's possible for the wheels on the trailer to climb over a low car instead of dragging it along.

The simple rule is that vehicles entering a roundabout have to give way to vehicles already on it. Many don't seem to understand this and approach at speeds they have difficulty/unable to stop. Time to look for a new car I guess!

You’re absolutely right about dash cams too. I have front and rear facing ones. Such a shame to see as nice a car as that trashed by a careless idiot. I believe these truckers should have to drop their trailers near the entry points and pick up one and go back home and keep off our roads with LHD trucks. Many times I had LHD trucks pull out in front of me at Carholme roundabout on my way home from work.

Gutted for you. I hope you have a good outcome on the insurance and can get that Z back on the road again.

Given insurance companies are writing off 5 year old vehicles because the xenons are broken I would sadly suggest that Z3 will be going to that big Spartanberg room in the sky :-(

It's toast!

Tony.

You have my sympathy, always the inocent that suffer

That's terrible at least you are unhurt. I only live down the road in Dunstable and visit Milton Keynes occasionally, I'm always impressed at how well the grid system of roads and roundabouts seem to work. Sadly not this time

So sorry to see your Dakar looking like that.

Will definitely be a write off but if non structural will be a cat n if you like it and have a way to get it repaired at a decent price may be worth taking it back .
You'll need to crunch the numbers see whats best.

The main thing is your ok .
As at the end of the day the car can be replaced.
Stephen.

Thanks guys, I am completely fine, the car not so much.
I hadnt realised that the broker put me onto an 'accident management company' who I now realise are only interested in pursuing claims with injury and loan cars to bolster their income. now they have all the details they are transfering me to the underwriters, so have to start all over again with forms and paperwork, hey ho.
There are so many bits damaged it leaves no doubt it's a write off, I don't have skills to repair or the money to pay others to do, so will just look for another if the payout is enough to find a replacement that good.

I had the same recently with my wife's car being written off. not her fault. Her insurance company was only interested in her taking out an agreement to give her a loan car for, wait for it, £820 per day! As they continually pointed out at no cost to us, but the poor bugger who's fault it was, was going to get bent over and shafted, without lube.

DON'T TRUST THEM.

My Jag was written off about 6 weeks ago after someone decided it’d be a good idea to pull out of a side road without looking, just as I was passing. I was more than happy to receive a loan car, at no cost to me.

It is, of course, not the idiot who didn’t look who pays for it but his insurance company, and ultimately all of us who constantly get fleeced by these parasites! We all get bent over and shafted as motorists, so why not take advantage of getting a free courtesy car.
If you reject it, do you honestly think it’ll make any difference to your premiums? We pay a small fortune to these companies over the years and receive very little in return, so take whatever you can from them I say.
As you might have guessed, I’m not a big fan of any insurance companies!

Trouble with myself is I think I'm pretty honest, I wasn't hurt but the pressure from the ACM and others I know was to push for an injury claim, I also have another car of my own and my wife's car to use so didn't want the agro of a loan car, my thoughts were really to get it sorted as quick as possible.
That hasn't worked either been left hanging by everyone, so have weekend of fretting.
Have seen a few very nice Zeds on different sites and one Dakar had about 95 pictures of it from every angle, even underneath, bet it's not there when I'm ready...

Glad you're not injured. My local roads are full of foreign HGVs on which the sat-nav has sent them despite the fact they're too narrow for most vehicles let alone an HGV. The cab turns the corner, the trailer cuts the corner in a straight line behind, and I go up the ditch two or three times a week to avoid them. It's cost me two wing mirrors but thankfully not the Z3. So far....
