The last time mine deadlocked I had to remove the rear window and crawl in but even with the key in the ignition the car would not unlock. Trying to remove the door panels with the doors closed and seats in is a nightmare. You need to gain access to door lock lever that is situated at the back of the door which will involve getting the angle grinder out. Much easier to cut the new grp door skin to gain access to the door lock. Some builders of the 250 left a hole in the skin with a plug to hide it along with an old extended key so the lock could be operated.

In another post you mention an emergency solution. A wire in the boot that you touch on battery+

Are there different kinds of deadlock? Does that wire in the boot always work no matter what the cause of the deadlock?

No. I don't have a deadlock. Just preparing myself.

Attacking the bonnet bulge. My plan is to lower it a lot and to push it back a few inches.

Chopped about 2.5 inches off the front of the bonnet bulge

I'll fill the gap later.

Cutting a long slot both sides of the bulge front to rear. Pushed the whole thing down a bit and tacked it in with fibre filler.

Bulge is much lower now. When I fill the hole at the front the bulge should be just around 1cm

Still a bit of fettling to do. Wet primer filler highlights what needs attention.

Bulge is about 12mm ish high and about 8cm further back. Not finished but I'm happy with where it's going

Now I'm not sure the bulge is straight. I need to get me measuring stick out.

Also fitted a wing mirror. Looks really tiny. Do they make bigger ones? It's convex glass so quite big field of view but things look miles away.

It took me over a month to determine the location of my gills. I will post my gill pictures on my forum in 3 hours. I hope this will be a reference for location selection.

I might move it to the door where it'll probably be more useful. On the other hand, the 507 design does look good with mirror on the wing. The foot/base of the mirror I have is very petit though. It needs a bigger base so I might change that mirror one day and get a chunkier one something like @Dxbolton 's. No hurry though. There's a mirror so it's road legal-ish

Emergency boot opening key/lock in the event of actuator failure, flat battery etc.

Seems most rebody'ers put their latch in the floor so they can get at it from below if necessary. I've kept mine, the original z3 latch, in the boot lid so needed a different failsafe.

Number plate an inch shorter and key hole tucked up under the boot handle.

The key barrel has a lever that I've connected via a rod to the lever on the bmw catch. The lock was only £3.99 on amazon so pretty cheap. Just a proof of concept at this stage. Intend spending a bit more money now to get a proper one in the same place. But, for now, it works.

The original tribute front to remind you. I felt the grill was too tall. Almost as if it needed a 3 pointed star in the middle

I recently changed the bonnet, lowered the hump. I'd already changed the shape of the nose, it's a bit longer and a bit lower.

I did this. But not entirely happy with it.

Now because I'm currently changing the shape of the grill surrounds I'm wondering if I should just keep going and change the shape of the whole grill.

So thinking of going to (something like) this. (This is just a mock-up)

Corners rounder. Especially those lower outer corners that bug me a little. Dunno. What do you reckon?

The original is a bit more curvaceous, but then it’s a Tribute and not a Replica. Ultimately it’s what you’re happy with that counts

I did have to play spot the difference to see what changes you had made though. Therefore leaving it would be valid too.

Looking at original 507s they all look slightly different. Very slight. Some look quite tall like tributes. Others are quite narrow horizontal well rounded ovals.

Maybe I'm a bit OCD. Punctilious or whatever it's called.

I haven't squinted at the back or sides yet. I'm sure I'll find something there that i need to do too. I just can't leave things as they are. Always fiddling.

There was a mk1 and a mk2 version of the 507 so that may account for some differences.
