oil pump replacement

they often out live a engine as they are normally well oiled ;) TBH thinking about it the only time I have known them to fail has been on new engine builds for one reason or another so I'd not worry about it unless you are overhauling the whole thing :)

Usually the failure on new builds is the lack of priming the oil pump and filling the galleries before firing up the engine. Takes out the oil pump and usually the cams and rings if the engine happens to fire. Usually the problem with an oil pump is the pickup falling off into the pan starving it. JIM

Or the engine overheating, causing any carbon residue to become unattached and it starts to circulate with the oil. This will eventually clog the gauze of the pick up strainer which also starves the oil pump. More likely on an engine which has had very infrequent oil changes.
